Message to all PS2 version 5 owners

Have chipped about 20 version 5's over the last 3 months with messiah 2 and all of them have shown signs of reduced cd-r reading capability.

PS1 backups on cd-r work fine but these only read in at 2X speed.

PS2 backups read at 24X speed and problems seen range from -taking a bit longer to load than ps2 original cds- to -not reading ps2 cdr's at all-.

This is not suprising as version 5 consoles r gettin on a bit.

All consoles modded read and played traxdata 4X ritek dye dvd-r no problems (burned at 4X) so not all bad news.

Regards

Weird, usually dvd playback is first to go.

Yep, it a bit wierd but happenin too often to ignore now. I've only noticed this on v5 consoles. All v7 an above I've done r still runnin strong.

Haven't tried adjustin lasers or anything. I just fit the chip so might be that a simple azimuth or angle adjustment fixes this

I can also confirm this problem. In just this week alone I had 3 V5's that wouldn’t read CD-R back-ups but DVD-R's read fine. They where all modded with apple pro's.

u think thats wierd. my v4 RSOD on original games sometimes but not on burnt copies LOL. but cdr work fine for me. must be that v5 don't like cdr or something.

Nobody should be able to tell the difference though. coz, almost every game these days is on DVDROM.

Another thing I noticed the other day after I chipped a version 5 the stand-by light no longer came on (red light). Stripped it down and checked ribbon wasn't damaged and was plugged up correctly. No probs there but still no red standby light. PS2 and m2 worked fine though. Anyone seen this b4??

Regards
