encoding problems?

I've just bought a DVD writer and I've backed up two dvds both of which have problems. When I play them on my dvd player or on my pc, near the end there are skips in the movie and the video messes up. Is this a problem with the encoding or the writer? I have an I/O Magic 4x dual format writer.

Sorry. I use dvd shrink to rip the files then encode them. Then I would use clonedvd to burn them. I just tried anydvd and clonecd and I still get the same problem.

The problem was my dvd writer not the encoding or media. I returned it and bought a Pioneer AO6.
