dvd x copy platinum-2nd disk copy issues

The following post is the one i made in another site some minutes ago and have not yet got a response. I hope my questions (and i believe not only mine), will be answered here.

"i really hoped that someone would answer this post as i have a similar problem. I tried to copy with platinum "2 fast 2 furious" into two disks as the movie's total size is 7,79 gb. I trid doing it with the aid of J. Chatzimihail's (geia soy patrioti) guide. With all due respect, i think it lacks some explanation in some points. If somenone was able to answer these questions many of us would really be grateful.

1) First of all. Is it necessary for me to have the appropriate free space if i want to copy the disk in 2 disks?(if over 4,38 gigs?) How is the process done? meaning, are the movie's contents written in the hard drive first? for both disks? or just for the first one, then write it in a blank and then the next one? I don't think it's the latter.....

2) As an example i'll use my attempt in the pre-mentioned movie. It is a total of 7,79 gigs. It has 7 titlesets. The biggest one is number 1 with a quantity of 5,37 gigs. I went to splitting. By default it separeted the contents, (i selected all titlesets), with titleset 1, 4, 7, 5, 6 in disk 1 and titlesets 1(again), 3, 2 in disk 2. Disk one supposedly was 4,12 gigs and disk 2 was 3,81 gigs. Question. Why is that when titleset 1 is 5,37 by itself????based on what logic? why is titleset 1 needed in both disks? my guess is that it contains the interface files. Why are the titlesets not in numerical order? why in disk 1 for example, we have 1 4 7 5 6 and not 1 4 5 6 7?

What are we supposed to do with the bottom left section "split titlesets at........"? does the answer of the questions lie there? What is Cel? cel 1, cel 2 etc, mentioned in that "split titlesets at........" box?

3)Anyway I burned successfully disk one. then........that's it. Over. No prompt to put another blank disk to make disk 2, nothing. I tried doing it manually afterwards, chossing only the appropriate titlesets (1, 3, 2) and to copy them as disk 1. Doesn't work, it shows their true gig capacity 7,52 gigs, not the reduced one (that i cannot understand) of 3,81 gigs.

Personally I really believe these questions must be abswered for us to be able to work with dvd x copy platinum.

If you aren't going to use compression use regular dvd x copy. It is much easier to use. As far as space goes, it will only rip the first disc then once it burns it will delete that image. So you only have half of the movie on your HDD at any given time.

Searching through the net, forums etc I have come across numerous problems of users with this program. especially with splitting, except for the same questions as me, there were a lot of errors, like the one where you put to much data on the fisrt disk etc. I have found out that when it reads the first disk and then you inserted the blank and it wrote it, then, without any prompt, you should put back the original again for the program to read it a second time for disk 2 and then it will give you an option to insert a blank media so that it may write the 2nd disk. Theoretically that's the process. I have yet to discover how we will make the program understand that we have already the first disk but due to ignorance, or for any other reason for other people, we didn't put at that time the original again and we didn't make disk 2, but all we want is disk 2. So since disk 2 cannot be made without the whole process all over again I thought of something. I will redo the process and create another disk 1. The difference is that it will be in a dvd+rw so that i can erase it afterwards. Then after it finishes i will continue with the process and hopefully create disk 2.

I've also read that people having the same problem as me, disk 1 that they had created didn't work. My disk 1 in my v7 ps2 with dms3 chip works and seems excellent.

I'll post again for the newest development.

That's the EXACT same problem I had with DVD XCopy Platinum - no prompt or nuthin for Disc 2, I ended up with just Disc 1. I was about to put the original back in too! Anywayz, thanks for the very helpful info... now if someone can come up with a prog to get rid of the annoying Warning screen for XCopy Platinum.

I believe someone has already done this. I haven't tried it out so I do not know if it works.

I have more problems with X Copy Platinum than other DVD copying programs. I have found that it doesn't respond well to copying DVD's which contain episodes (Simpsons, etc.). I now use other programs and almost never resort to using X Copy.

Thanks for the info. I will keep this in mind if I decide to use X Copy to split into 2 discs.

I find that X Copy isn't all that great. The best thing I found about it is that it keeps the original DVD quality while very easy to use. Now that I have fiured out how to do the same using other programs I don't need X copy anymore.
The thing that made me start to learn to use other programs was the fact that the copy would be copyright. What's the point of making a backup if you can't copy the backup? What happens if you original stuffs up? That is the whole point of making a back up in the first place. I guess they have to cover their behinds with all the copyright issues these days though

You can copy the copy, just not with dvd x copy. Platinum is still very buggy. If all you are doing is splitting, use regular dvd x copy.

Does DVDXcopy Platinum preserve menus when you split into 2 DVD's? If so, what happens when you wanna access something on Disc 2 on Disc 1's menu - does it ask you to put in Disc 2?

Yes it preserves the menu. If you try to access somthing that is on the other disc it will eith just return you to the menu or go wacko, which is why I put part of the main movie on the first disc and extras and the second half of the movie on the other.

Does XCopy Platinum do this automatically (put all extras etc onto 2nd disc)? I'm also trying to use DVDFab and DVDShrink, any help would be awesome...

Don't use Platinum if you are going to split. Use the regualr version and if you want to compress use a prog such as clone dvd or dvd shrink.

I have a question on DVD Xcopy (the original normal version.) When I do the 2 disc backup, the 2nd disc always starts with subtitles on and I have to turn them off. Is there any way to have the 2nd disc start with movie normally (with menus) withOUT subtitles on automatically?

Never had the subtitle problem. What version you using? The option to start the second disc with or without the menu is on the first screen.

I'll check on the version when I get home. For the 2nd disc I'd like it to start with the movie automatically, but retain the menus at the same time. Right now, what is happening is I have to manually turn off subtitles everytime I pop in the 2nd disc.
