I personally dont like dvdxcopy products. You can try them and see what you think. I like the CloneDVD and Anydvd combo.

Tylers spot on once again...but here's a few you may wanna try...
The reason you are getting the error from record max is because the dvd's are protected and encrypted.
So you need to de-crypt the disc.....use dvd - decrypter (free at www.dvddecypter.com ) The stickie will tell you how to use the program.
Then you wil need a proggie to compress the files (so they fit on one disc) something like dvdshrink...or dvd2one .
Shrink will do the whole process (even decrypting) from start to finish even burning the disc if needed (but using nero)
All the instructions for using these proggie can be found in the dvd for dummies stickies..
Hope this is of some help...

They are just different formatted discs. If you cant read dvd-r then you probably have a dvd+r burner. I recommend getting either a dual format burner (- and +) or just a -r burner.

Question

Tyler & OurKid just wondering why your not big fans of all in one dvd backup utilitys like DVD X COPY. I've used it for several months now and haven't had any trouble backing up most of my dvds.

I tried CloneDVD but wasn't able to backup any of my dvds at all and I always felt using several programs to get the job done was to much work.

Is it because these programs are generally free or is it because they allow you more control over the whole process and you can do things with an individual program that a stand alone won't?

Take Care, Delta1 out.

@Delta1

For one I hate the "backup" banner on DVD X COPY. Secondly I dont like to split my dual layered dvds onto 2 discs. Thirdly, Ive had problems installing certain versions of DVD X COPY on my system (yes me having problems!! ).

With the CloneDVD and AnyDVD combo its very easy to work with. AnyDVD, once installed runs in the background of your pc (no user necessary) and basically makes your dvd drives ignore the flags that Encrypted dvd's come equiped with.

CloneDVD allows you to pick and choose which movie segment/bonus tracks you want or dont want. It will then rewrite your dvd files with menu's included to fit your specific needs. All removed bonus tracks will automatically return back to the menu where it was chosen.

All in all they are basically one program since you dont need to do anything with AnyDVD other than install it.

Wink

Tyler when I tried CloneDvd all I got was any error message saying that the disk I was trying to copy was copyright protected and wouldn't let me back it up. I'm a big fan of CloneCD and have used it for quite a while and was disappointed with CloneDvd when I tried it.

So basically AnyDvd blocks this and allows CloneDvd to view the disk as unprotected and allows a backup to be made. The people buying DVD X COPY since the 26th of Feb may need that because the court made them remove the ripper function from the program.

I use the Express part of DVD X COPY 99% which removes the menus and such but most of the stuff I backup is for my kids, they're hell on dvd's and cd's, and the quicker the movie starts playing the better.

Thanks for the info I'll have to give it another and I'll check out the previous link too.

Take Care, Delta1
