I recently entered the world os PS2, but I'm not new in the world of DVD±R/RW.

"They" probably are justified saying that DVD-R is definetely the best, because (correct me if i'm wrong) PS2 wasn't supporting DVD+R/RW.

I bought a v9 PAL and in the box it was writting that it supports DVD+R/RW.

I personally have backed-up about 7 games I own and some are DVD+R and some DVD-R. The only common thing they share is that all of them are TDK and burned with Nero 6 or DVD Decrypter, which actually is the same thing, since it utilises the recording engine or Nero.

I have finished all these games using the backups, so both formats performed nice.

Only, in Resident Evil DVD-R i had a problem, which hanged in a specific point, but i re-burned and played fine.

Now, i don't know in the long term if either of the format would be guilty for a potentialy worn laser, but i cannot test that!

The only thing that i can suggest is that everyone should use a very good brand. If using a well-known brand, your PS2 will have an easier task of booting the games, therefore reducing possibilities of a premature worn laser.

Well ever since around v5 maybe even v4, ps2's were hit or miss on playing +R. Saying that one or the other is more or less hard on the laser without really testing is not really the correct way about it.

I had a v5 back in the day that would read anything. Well I didnt test cdrw but I tested - and + R on it with full success. Then I sold it so I could buy a new v7 and put a Messiah 2 in it. Turns out my v7 will play everything (still havent tested cdrw's) but +R. Heck my v7 will even play +RW, just not +R.

I really have never noticed any smoother reading out of any of them. Actually if anything sounded smoother it was the DVDRW's.

Hmmmmm "They" say a lot of stuff. Any ps2 beyond version 9 should have no problem reading either and I doubt that theres any difference laser stresses as long as u use a decent make of dvd. Steer clear of -rw and +rw as this will stress yr laser and especially in version 9's this is not a good idea.

Regards

I totally agree with you. As long as you use a decent brand, there won't be any problem.
