Problem with Apple X V, not booting anymore

Hi all,

Had my V1.4 Xbox wqorking for a week now with a Apple X V chip installed. Today it suddently didn;t boot from the Apple BIOS anymore. Usually when you power on holding the power button a orange Xbox logo is displayed letting you know the Modchip bios is loaded.

However now when i do it all that comes up is the Green Xbox logo and original MS dash. The evox dash was all seyup and loading b4.

The Xbox can still play original games, just not my bakups cos it won;t load the apple bios.

I check the solder points and they were fine, just to be safe replaced all wires and re soldered the mod again,

Still no luck boot from the chips bios. is it possible the chip has died?

I did not attempt to upgrade the bios or anything, it was as simple as working one minute and not the next.

Any advice?

Thanks for your time.

Regards,

Slats

Is the on/off switch internal or external?

The way this chip works is:

To boot original xbox Bios:
Power on Xbox by pressing eject button, the green xbox shows indicating the booting of the original bios.

To boot apple bios:
power on using Xbox power button and hold foe 2-4 seconds, a orange xbox logo will show indicating the booting of the apple bios.

So in answering your question it;s the Xbox's original power button .

Thanks.

damn, they really like to trick you in their descriptions. I thought there was an additional swith that turns the chip off.

Hmm, the only wire that could be the problem is the d0. Otherwise you would likely just get the error needs service screen. If you say that it is making a complete connection, you might have to scape the top ring of the d0 (very lighty), to ensure connection.

If that fails, then the only thing I can think of is that the chip fried. Maybe static? There was a warrenty, right?

Hi,

Not really worried about the warrantly as it is a very cheap chip, just really want to know what is happening.

I tried before with the d0 but still no luck.

what can i do to stop the staic if it is causing the problem? All i did was power off the xbox and then a few hours later tried to boot from the apple bios but it went to the original bios and original dash.

The instructions that i used to install the chip had no grounding points. However my v1.4 xbox, the pin 2 on the LPC bus has a connection to the comon earth points. e.g the screw holes.

Regards,

well, it can also be the solder point that makes it turn on when the power button is pressed. I know you already checked it, i am just handing out suggestions of the possible problem.

If it was static, the chip is probably fried. More humidity would fix it (joke). Hmm, you can always use electrical tape and plaster the chip (well, the new chip if you cannot resolve the problem).

Maybe try to secure the connection to the ground with a little solder. That svrew hole is the ground for most xbox versions, and is ussually what the chips use. If you did not solder a ground point, then it is the screw hole.

Yeah the chip was stuck into the board using double sided tape, would that of been ok for static?

The gound point used was LPC pin 2, that point is connected to the screw ground point. Used a multimeter to check. I used the guides on xbox-scene to determine which version i had. It said that if LPC pin 2 was connected to the ground points that it would be v1.4. So instead to soldering to LPC pin 2 i could of soldered it to the screw hole but it would of be the same.

I will contact the dude i got the chip off and see what he recommends.

Thanks for your help.

Hello all,

Just want to say thanks to Quall999 for helping me out.

The problem was indeed a fried chip, the person who sold the chip to me replaced it (nice of him).

I carefully installed the new chip and it works again!

Thanks again.
