xbox live

i have a little problem now. playing backups on xbox live. i turn on my x2 to load the backup and then i immediately turn it off when the game boots up. i then go to xbox live from the menu and it says can't connect to xbox live, so then it says would u like to troubleshoot ur settings...so i choose yes. it goes back to xboxdash live menu and starts going through all of the checks: cable connected, dns server found, etc. and all of the check points passed. it then goes back to booting up my backup and again i try to go live thinking that the problem has been resolved. and again it says can not connect to xbox live. so i get a little upset. i take my backup out and load mechassault which came with the starter kit. i load the game with the chip turned off. i go to xbox live i immediately and i get signed in without any problems....so what gives? how come i can go live with my originals but not with my backups?
