Vice City/NHL2004

Yo. I'm trying to create back-ups of these games but am not doing too well. GTA Vice City uses SecuRom 4.84.69.0071 and NHL2004 uses Safedisc v2.9.

I've tried copying using Alcohol120/Alcoholer & CloneCD/ClonyXXL/CloneCD4Profiler without success. I keep gettin read errors,even on 2x read speed.

I've tried copying the disc contents to a temp directory and using the unsecrom and unsafedisc. With unsafedisc i just keep gettin random errors when tryin to dump and unsecurom doesnt work on Windows XP.

Anyone got any ideas? I'm a relative noob so it could well be me I suppose.

I know these are recent protections but there must be a way around them eh. My brain hurts.

even if you are a newbie when it comes to copy protected games you should have seen the 'search' button.

a search for 'read errors' would have answered one of your questions: read errors are totally normal when dealing with copy protections (mostly safedisc).

and as for unsafedisc: it's an old programm thats no longer beeing updated. safedisc version 2.9 is not supported. there is nothing you can do about that

the only chance is a copy with alcohol120% or clonecd using the safedisc 2 profile and most probably with EFM/amplify weak sectors enabled.

Yes, I could have done that I suppose, I just guessed from the clonecd/alcohol120 logs that the read errors would result in a bad copy. Bloody noobs eh.

ehm, (swedish for hmm or something like that..

), if you wanna make a quick bakup for NHL 2004, do a fast dump.

Is supported in Alcohol. Read the stickeys, my backup guide for more instructions!

Other wice the backup can take up to 1 day!

Thanks, I don't think CloneCD can handle these two copywrite protections. The reason being that CloneCD profiler won't even create a profile for the Safediscv2.9. And as for Vice City, ClonyCD profiler,after clicking 'read last Clony protection' replies with "Caution... That construct to a back up copy with this copy protection is with CloneCD not possible".

So my only hope looks like Alcohol120. I'll look for this fast dump feature and chek out ur article. Thanks peeps.

Alcohol 120% supports fast dump! with some fast dump settings.

Vice City is protected with SecuROM *new* 4.8x>

We are glad if you test it and inform us! Ruimors say it works. But I haven't test by my self. So test it and inform us if it works. Please learn Alcohol 120% before you trying. It could be some settings problems you have done wrong.

Use the l8est version of Alcohol 120%

No problemo. By the sounds of it it's gonna work with the latest alcohol120/clonyxxl/alcoholer. I will test it as soon as I can and let you know, for both games.

Yeeeeeeehaaaa. It's worked. Thanks to ur guidance and reassurance, the combination of Alohol120/ClonyXXL/Alcoholer has done the job (standard settings generated from Alcoholer via ClonyXXL(after establishing protection type))

NHL2004 took 3hrs to read, yet Vice City only a fraction of the time.

But one of my m8s has laughed at this 3hr read time and seems confident that he has a much simpler and quicker copying method eluding all copywrite techniques. I'm currently progressing from noob status but you may be familiar wiv such a method. EIther way I'll let you know wot he divulges. Doesnt sound similar to methods I've read about. Hmmmm.

Anyway, thanks guys. Back-up successful. And I'd like the noobs out there to know that CloneCD sucks, and couldn't deal with either of these games, creating a dud cd.

Right so this simple backing-up process my m8 was referring to is the no-cd patch?!?!? I thought that was just for convenience and not to elude the protection. Damn.
