Alcohol120 demo & crappy old burner

Greetings everyone:

I'm new to this forum so if I post anything that offends anybody, I would like to apologize up front

Recently I borrowed Splinter Cell & C&C Generals from my brother & I'm trying to produce a funtioning copy of each game. I've got the full registered version of clone cd 4 which I used to make the images & they came out perfectly. However, when I try to burn them clone cd just won't do it. I get a "writing to cd failed unit not ready logical unit not ready" error. Clone cd reports that my drive is capable of reading & writing sub-channel data using RAW-SAO which it can do since I've made fully funtioning backups with it before using the exact same settings. It just doesn't seem to want to do it for these 2 titles.

So I got to thinking...Well what if I try burning the image in a different writing mode? Will that work? But the only problem with clone cd is that you can't pick the write mode it uses. It just auto detects the best one suited for your device to make a 1:1 copy.

Enter Alcohol 120. I've heard good things about alcohol & it is a sweet program but it gave me conflicting information about my drive capabilities. Clone cd reports that my drive can do RAW-SAO + SUB & Alcohol reports that it can only do regular SAO\DAO along with TAO. I thought that was a little weird but I tried the regular SAO\DAO mode and it worked. Which finally leads me to these questions:

1.) Is there really any differece between burning in RAW mode & regular DAO\SAO besides the fact that it's not copying the intentional errors placed on the cd? Am I going to run into any problems doing it this way? (I didn't have time to try out my attempted copy before leaving for work, but would like to know because I have other titles that may need to be created this way.)

2.) Is a digital ID just a fancy way of saying that the software title checks for the cd on startup or is it something entirely different that the game looks for? Does anyone know if either of these 2 titles contain them?

3.) My burner is a LG CD-RW CED-8042B running firmware v.1.07 (I know it's a P.O.S.) I'm using the trial version of Alcohol 120 v.1.481222 Does anyone know if there is a difference between the full version & the trial besides the date it expires? Any features cropped out?

4.) Can anyone recommend any other software besides nero, cdr-win or Alcohol that will allow me to select the write mode before burning? Anything that is capable of using RAW-SAO that would hopefully be compatible with my drive? Clone cd 5 perhaps?

If anyone knows the answers to these questions, or even just one of them, please respond. As long as your response is helpful that is.
