hmm, make yourself a copy from your original cd1 and mount it via DT344 and play...

no more risk to your original-cd1 from getting scratched...

DO NOT post it anywhere on emule like the X2-obit release. that is illegal! Buy the game and make yourself a copy!

dt344... isn't that the tourist drive up the coast? that's a long way to go to play a game.

...? some kind of ... other thing perhaps ?

Daemon Tools v3.44, which is a "virtual" cdrom emulator.

I'm a noob about daemon's tools so please can you explain? you mean that after i have a copy of the original (wich i have) the i run daemon tools and put it to securom emulation or something like it? and will this stop all the security checks the game goes through gameplay? (money leaks, factions getting hostile, low performance on above specs machines etc...?), thanks.

jepp, you can

- make a copy of your original cd1 (CloneCD/Blindwrite)
- install DT344
- mount the image with DT

play the game. you will not lose money and the factions will not become more and more hostile.

do NOT start the game from the autorun-screen (the one that pops up, when the disc is 'inserted'). Its is said, that even having the original disc in drive will sometimes toggle that nasty, faulty securom-protection. Better start from menu or desktop-link

do NOT use any emulation from within DT to emulate securom or else. that will not work.

I played for quite some time and i have no money-leakage or Borons going wild on me

You have to delete the backup-image when you do not own X2 anymore...

hey, mod -> i hope that is OK. if not, please don't kick me too hard and just delete my post. no offence intended. we are talking about legal backups, not warez!

P.S.: the check will be done anyway (its an original exe you are playing), but X2 does not know it is running with an image instead of a real disc. DT mount images as virtual CD-Drives. No swapping, no fear to scratch your disc to death...

yes, thank you, i'll try that. and just to clear up.. i own the game but my cdrom drive, well it cost $30au and lets just say i got what i paid for; so wherever possible i install games with my fingers crossed and then put the disc where my drive can't eat it.

will daemon tools have any effect on performance ie ive only got 256, and x2 runs like rosie o'donnell already...

was that a trunk with legs?

DT uses not much memory. it only buffers a few tracks or so (5mb?)

The 1.1 Patch did great improvement in performance on my system. With 1.0 it was barely playable due to low framerate. kind of DeusX2 in space

Hmm, I hope you will be able to make a clone (backup) with your cd-drive...

what bugs me most, is that legal customers are punished with this secush*t - egosoft and enlight are realy pushing their customers hard...

P.S.: I am using the US-Version. Copyprotection may differ (i don't know if it's true)
