Going online with router wirewall
Hey whats up. I got a 4 port Linksys router and a cable connection. I can get XBOX Live to work with no problem, but trying to go online with gamespy won't work. I think it has something to do with the wirewall or whatever set up by the router. I've set the DMZ host to the XBOX, but that didn't work. I tried something w/ forwarding ports, but I don't know much about that.
Has anyone had this problem before and able to help me out?? |

Try this first. Disable the firewall and see if it works. If not it hasn`t got anything to do with the firewall. And what do you mean with going online with gamespy? Does it run from your pc or xbox? And what you can do also is connect the xbox directly to the internet. If that doesn`t work it doesn`t have to do with your internet connection it must be something in the software

Well thats the problem, I am not sure how to disable the firewall, I go to my IP address in Internet Explorer and log in. Then went through all the settings, but I didn't see anything specificaly said firewall, and I don't know a lot about that stuff. By going online w/ gamespy I mean using Game spy Arcade and Game spy Tunnel on the computer, and i have XBOX plugged into to the router, as well as the computer. I can't connect XBOX directly to the internet for this because you need the comptuer to do it, I can get XBOX Live by it self to work just fine with the router. But I can't get it to work for games that require Game spy arcade and tunnel (or another app) to make it an online game, VIA the system link option. I would like to try another program, but I havne't found one that is free. Any advise? |

not the router inmbedded firewall, he means a personal firewall. It would block the connection if you were trying to host/join a game. You only need to mess with the router if your gonna host, but without a t1 line, i'd forget about hosting.
Look by the clock in the start menu bar. Look at the icons, see anything line zone alarms, or norto internet security? Right click it, then disable.

No, I don't have any kind of zone alarm or anything like that. I do have one of those freakin virus like things that makes all these ads pop up and always have "save" in the window, but that wouldn't have anything to do w/ this as far as I know. I called Linksys and we tried a bunch of things: DMZ host, updated firmware, port forwarding, but still no luck, even tried using it on my Windows XP machine, instead of this Win98. Anyone have any other suggestions??? I'm using a Linksys BEFSR41 ver. 2, if that helps.

hey what your gonna want to do is go into your router settings via IE or something however you do it, go to port forwarding and make one for you xbox or whatever and open port ranges from 0 to 65535 this will completly open up your router, try that and make sure you enable it as a TCP and UDP or upload and download privalage and enable it, apply changes reboot the system (router and comp) and then try again, see if that does anything for ya cause i know mine was a bitch to set up
