Question Newbie/ question about mod chips and backup games

Hi -
I'm new to the world of backing up ps2 games. I have a couple of questions: I had a mod chip installed in my ps2(the one thats soldered to my board) and I need to know that when I back up a game do I need a patch? Also what exactly are patches? And what do they do? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
BK

Hmmm sounds like a neo 2.2 do you need to swap cds over?

Do you use action replay? or Swap Magic? or Dvd Region x?

If you give me these details i can go from there

Oh and what software do you use?

I think it sounds a bit more like a neo2.5 because (correct me if Im wrong) the neo2.2 had more wires to solder. The neo2.5 had 5 wires to solder and the neo2.6 auto load had 6 wires to solder.

Tyler!

Actually it could still be either one, Sony changed the MB starting with v5. The v5 up doesnt support the EA swap method with Neo chips so it reduced the # of wires from 8 to 5.

Question

Hi -
I use a Nero 6.0 to burn my backups, also I don't have to swap any disks out. I just load them in my PS2 and hold the reset button, turn the system off and on, then reset and they play. I installed alcohol 120% but I have had some problems figuring it out. No biggie, I'll get it. The windows program is 98SE, and I'm about to upgrade to xp soon. Hope you can help me out, it sounds like you guys are very knowledgable. Thanks again.

dont worry bout them they get a bit cranky when it comes to this lol! .

Stickys are at the top of the ps2 forum and there loabled Sticky: blah blah.

anyway i would recommend u up dating to xp i have xp no problems.

hmmmm i dont think u should burn with nero any more mate, i think you should use record now max 4.5 the link to that is in the sticky for backing up ps2 games its the best software avaliable for copying ps2 games and so on you wont go bad with that. relation to the patches i dont think you will need them there only really for the non solder mods and old mods so if you do need rip kits or ea patches go to www.alucard.cc

hope this sorts your problem

Ok, Patches are used to change region code or to get by copy protection, not all games require patching. You say you have a 5 wire chip, if so it wil load PSX backups without swap but not PS2. You will need a boot disc like AR2, GS2 or Swap magic to play PS2 backups. As mentioned before, Read the Stickies, They are located on the top of the forum page. The one titled Boot procedures for all modchips.
