ps2 laser

hi i just installed a new ps2 laser. now swap magic doesnt even load, and the original games dont play very good. i am sure the laser is brand new, not refurbished or used. the connector is plugged all the way into the laser. any idea on what might have gone wrong?

When you put the laser in, did you adjust it correctly?
