Recently i bought a DVD burner (NEC ND-1300 DVD+-R/RW)
and some verbatim datalifeplus DVD-R. I used Nero to Burn Image i prepared earlier (devil may cry), and everything seemed to work out just fine. However, when i placed the backup in my PS2 (SCPH-30004 w Messiah) it wouldn´t load, recognise the disc or anything. This machine has no problem playing backups ripped onto CD-r, so this left me a bit baffled. All in all I tried two different images (castlevania LOI & Devil may cry), on three different progs (Nero, discjuggler and alcohol 120%) and the reults were the same: burning the DVD-R is fine, but getting the PS2 to recognize it is a total and utter failure. I´m thinking that i must be doing some horrible newbie mistake and would be very gratefull if someone could give me some advice/solution. Thanks! |

Using right boot procedure?
For messiah this shoud work. PS2 backups (CD & DVD) • Insert game and close tray • Press reset EDIT: Argh.. Stupid me.. Of course he uses the right method if he can run PS2 CD-R.

I suspect that yr ps2 laser isn't up to the challenge of running dvd-r. It will play cdr fine because in effect the ps2 has two different lazing diodes (i.e different lasers for cd an dvd) so while cdr will be okay dvd could be the problem.
First get some better media (Traxdata,DVDMaster,Ritek, anything ritek dye based), Secondly run a cleaning disc through yr ps2 about 5 times in a row then try again. If still not working u could look into recalibrating yr laser but personally I would remove messiah and sell ps2 then buy a second hand version 7 or above. That will read dvd-r no problems. Sorry 4 bad news,Regards

Thanks for the advice.
Would it help to replace the laser, or is the problem more to do with me having an ancient model? Also, do I need a special cleaning disc? The one I use for my stereo isn´t recognized either.. |
