identify who actually makes ur DVD-R media
ok. u all have probably used DVD-Rs with different branding but little do u know that the name on the packet is not who physically makes the disc. there are different manufacturing plants and each ranges from good to pathetic.
here is a program that will allow u to read the maufacturer of the disc. This can help u identify which brands are better and which to stay away from. u need a dvd writer to use it. u should stay away from media with this manufacturer: CMC magnetics Princo |

Very, Very good. I also tried ADVDInfo, but it needed an ASPI and I use Patin Couffin instead, as ASPI seems to make my drives incompatible with everything. Suprised to find Verbatim discs are made by CMC Magnetics but they are very, very good discs.

My DataLifePLUS CD-R are made by MCC (Mitsubishi Chemical), but the DataLife DVD-R are made by CMC Mag. (CMC Magnetics), but they work fantastically well.

Verbatim dvd-r are p**s poor media for ps2 to read. I still haven't found a version ps2 that will read them reliably. They certainly ain't a patch on Traxdata.

hey i agree ottoman. the dye on my TDK's is darker than that of the verbatims not to mention the error rates on the verbatim are higher than TDK.
anyway, u seem to have much praise for these traxdata. why dont u follow the link i gave and download dvd identifier so we can know who actually makes them. my bet is either ritek or taiyo yuden. could even be maxell. |

i've gotta say i disagree with the comment bout the verbs.
I recently bought some ritek G03's and G04's. Both seem to take the ps2 longer to load and cause a louder drive noise. (I posted something a week ago bout this) So i looked at my previous discs (Which were a lighter dye than the riteks.) tried them and they were perfect. Bought some verbs in couple of days ago, reburned the backups that were causing me trouble on the riteks and they work perfect now on the verb.. I honestly think it's simply a case of what works for you might not work for others. The strange thing is that I borrowed a cheap datasafe disc from a friend (Shows as having a princo dye) and the ps2 accepted them BETTER than riteks. Wierd as hell I know but as lufc_fan suggested, i'm one of a small percentage that the whole ritek setup doesn't work for.

maybe ur writer burns light dyes better than dark dyes such as ritek. i doubt its ur ps2. they will read ANYthing that is burned with low amount of errors, jitter, high reflectiveness etc.
do u have a liteon dvdwriter or dvdrom? u can do some error testing if u do? just say so and i'll link u to a program u can download that will scan the error rates on ur burns. its excellent to compare different media at diferent speeds etc. |

but have u got a liteon dvd rom or writer??? it wont work unless u do. here it is anyway. scroll down a bit and download it.
when u use it go to write strategy pop ur disc in and it will scan it for errors. u will get alot but dont worry i'll explain it later. BTW, if u got a liteon dvdrom instead of a writer it might not scan first try. just wait and press scan again and it will work. actually, for me it never works first try, it always says there an error just ignore it, press stop and scan again, it will work. |
