Problems with Getaway & Manhunt

Hey,

i'm having problems with backups of said games. The Getaway i created an image of using DVD Decrypter and then burned it with the same program on a traxdata 2x dvd+r. It would stutter a lot on the title screen and usually wouldn't start loading the game. I then found out this forum and bought a cakebox of Traxdata 4x dvd-r. I burned it again with almost the same results. So i remembered this forum and found out Recordnow Max was the program of choice for PS2-games so i made a backup using that program of my first burned backup (could this be a problem?) agina on a Traxdata 4x dvd-r. Now it still stutters on the title screen but loads ok.
With Manhunt, i had to make a copy using Nero at a friend's house. First on the dvd+r, which had problems with the sound during "executions", then on the dvd-r, whicht runs ALMOST perfect.
Do you think if i from the start had backupped the games using only RnM and dvd-r, things would be better now?

Damn, that's a bigger post than i intended...

Thanks in advance!

ps. i have a NEC 1300 and a V7 PS2 with the Ripper 2 deluxe

there's certainly a good chance, as +r have a much lower success rate than -R

yeah stick to using -R, Traxdata (or any Ritek G03/G04 dye based disc) should do you proud and use RecordNow Max for creating your backups, its a winning combination for like 95% of the members here

the ALMSOST perfect part could be down to a dirty laser (give it a clean by running a dvd lens cleaner through it). Do any of your other games run like this?
it could also be that your mod has something to do with it, although i'm not in a position to say as i don't know much about the Ripper2 DX....

hope that helpds

Thanks bobfffg for the quick reply, i'll stick to the "winning combination" in the future!

I don't have a lens-cleaningset yet but i'll give it a try when i buy one. I don't remember any other game having problems but i'll check it again just to be sure.

About the mod, I used to have a V4 with a messiah but when i got a V7 and went back to the guy who also installed the messiah he recommended the ripper 2 deluxe. So far it's been great: boots everything and for dvd's it has automatic region-free and removal of the RGB-green.

Peace!

Ripper 2 Deluxe is just a cheaper version of the DMS3.

What version of RNM are you using?

bighap, I'm using version 4.50.

Do you think it's a problem with the mod? Because i can trade the r2d for a messiah 2 no cost.

I'm going to try the same backups on a V7 Messiah 2 of a friend of mine, who knows...

Anyhow, thanks for the replies

No you are fine. Just making sure you were using 4.50. Report back your results on your friends PS2. This will norrow it down to a bad burn or your laser.

Update:

tried the games on my friend's PS2. Manhunt ran the same with audio stuttering during "executions" as it did on my PS2. Getaway ran a little better but not as good as his own backup (on a 4x Ricoh dvd+r).

Bought the cleanerset today ( a disc with "6 ultra fine cleaning brushes", ahem...). Getaway seems to be running a little better now. Still problems at the titlescreen, but it loads alright and there are no problems with cutscenes and audio. Haven't had the chance to test Manhunt.

Could it also be that I made the Manhunt-image with Nero?

ps. is it wise to burn @ 4x or should I stick to 2x?

It's probably best to burn at the highest speed you can. Only if you develop problems should you reduce your burn speed. Hope this helps...
