Well, i vote data just because it saves me time, and frankly i think it is just easier. The difference in loading times are very small. Besides, some of the cheaper dvd media will get a burn error when using iso's (and the dvd's i bought were the "cheaper" media. But hey, 100 dvd's that work flawlessly with the databurn for only $57 (thats with shipping), i couldn't pass).

original X-BOX games were made in ISO form.
this is the true form for X-BOX's. realistically if u wanted to make a backup of your original, u would want it to run smoothly and faster. if thats the case, i suggest u invest in a bigger hard drive for your X-BOX. its only around £50 for a maxtor 120gig. it makes sense if u have a lot of originals to backup, considering good media cost around anything £1- £3 depending on your choice of media(U.K.) but if u decide to backup onto media, then an ISO will deffinately load faster and smoother, also during gameplay. data files will make the laser work harder. although laser are made to last for a long time, they dont last forever. if a laser was to work harder, then the life span of it will shorten. it is the same on DVD players when u do a lot of fast forward/fast rewind. come on guys , how much longer does it take to create an ISO out of them data files (especially with a free program " Craxtion"). 5 mins..... |

There really is no proof that making a dada DVD makes the laser work harder. And people have been debating the issue of load times since day of the modchips first came into being. It all maters on the type / brand of media your using that constitutes load time.
And for that matter I use data burns so I can do a 1:1 of my games if I need to. Would really suck if my HDD crashed and I had to spend hours "ripping" all my games again. Screw that.

ok as most old timers here know i own 8 xbox's including my first which i bought on the day of the launch. i still use this xbox every day with data burn backups and it still works perfectley, in fact i use data burn backups on all of them and they all work flawlessley.
i now have 180 games backed up with the data burn method and all work absolutley flawlessley. i have tried the iso method in the past and as recentley as 3 days ago but for me they are still way to unstable. i had one game which had relativley slow read times once i burned it with the data burn method ( starwars KOTOR ) but i just did as quall999 sudgested and closed the disc after the burn and it now runs as fast as the original. for me the only wat to backup is via the data burn method. |

haha this is hilarious
i thought some of us long-timers were gonna convert to the iso method im still quite the data burner myself and of course, dude's way is the way to go at least this clears a lil more up lets get other votes and opinions from other people and see where this goes my personal opinion is still; Copying Games: 1. on HDD 2. through dude's data burn 3. iso burn

Who me silly? Not likely.
Although Im not a legend in xbox I do learn quickly. I didnt get where I am by just blundering about. Im simply choosing a method that is proven to be what the xbox likes and using it. I figure if Im using DVDRs to play my backups I want them to run as smoothly as possible. Thats why I take all precautions and extra measures. I have tried out different types of ISO makers and have kept with the ones that work the best. Tyler!

the majority of peeps alike use to backup originals using the data burn method.
this was simply becoz ISO making programs before were not stable until recently. this is why peeps were put off the ISO method. there are now a couple of programs that create ISO without a flaw. for those who want to just backup there originals , u would benefit more in the long run by installing a bigger HDD in your box. in realistic terms , for those who make more than 1 backup for obvious reasons, it would be more practicle and less time comsuming if they were to use data method. At the end of day the burn't media ,whether its crap or good , and the files on it , whether its ISO or data , wont be played on there own machine. for peeps who r unsure, then think about it , if u want a backup that runs smoother, or take the risk of the laser wear. there is no proof that data burns make the laser work harder. but when the drive makes a lot of noise when loading data method from the media, r u not concerned that it could be. it is fact that if a laser works harder , it shortens it's life span. |

I am a NOOB but, I read that an Xbox can read +RW disks and I was wondering if there is a way to get a Xbox to read a burned game (iso or data) WITHOUT moding.

First of all, if your laser is indeed making more noise using the Data Burn method rather than the ISO then that IS proof that your laser is working harder.
Noobies should read the stickies. Tyler!
