Hiya.
Im new to this forum. I have just read som threads here and it looks like its alot of good and serious peeps in here. Got a few questions about my old ps2. Recently i put a magic 3.1 modchip in my ps2, i was aware of the problems with the laser on those old machines like my ps2 which is a v3. I havent spend to much money on the chip or the job to put the chip in my ps2 so its no big deal if it doesnt work. They told me in the store where i chipped it that it plays cd-r but not dvd-r cause of a bad laser. I burned like 6 differnet ps2 games yesterday and only two of those worked. The ones that worked booted flawlesly without any probs. But those games that didnt boot just frooze in the reading disc session in the browser. Some of em start to load but the tv turned black. Iss 3 booted to the pal 50Hz alt ntsc 60 Hz selection screen but after that the screen turned black. I would be very happy if i found any solution to this prob. Between i used Verbatim cd-r and burned some of em in 2x speed. Is there any patches that is needed for the games or is it just my old crappy laser that got problems to boot the games. Burned dvd movies, Original games works perfectly and as i said before some cd-rips boots perfectly to. Gonna buy a laser cleaner today and try some other cd-r media. Any other sugestions? |

Yep...You've pretty much answered your own question. Its an old ps2 with an old laser in it. You're doin the right thing with the cleaning disc. Try running it through dry about 3 times first. If no improvement run it through wet a few times and try again. Also you could try very carefully manually cleaning the laser lens with a Qtip and some lens cleaning alcohol.
Also you're using decent enough cdr's.....R they datalife or datalife plus, two different coloured write surfaces. I've found that plus are better ( blue write surface, similar to ps2 original cd's). Also you are burning them slowly which is good. What software are you using to back up the games? I usually use CloneCD or Record Now to back up PS2 CD's and burn at 4 speed an they come out perfect. Wot r u usin? Regards

Im using nero at the moment. I have only burned from isos yet. Havent tryed to copy from a original disc. The games i tryed this far is iss 3, pro evolution soccer, ssx 3, Dynasty warriors 4, ninja assault and ico. Ninja Assault and Ico boots perfectly.
I would be happy if i had some more games start. Isnt it weird that my burned dvd+r movie backups works perfect. as they always had do. But in my thougths the laser shouldnt be to bad since they works. Is it easier to read a burned dvd movie than a game (cd-rip)? |

My friend made backup copies of these isos for me. since i just chipped my ps2 im new to the backup stuff. So i let him try backup some games so i had a chance to see if it works properly in my ps2.
I have no idea which software he used to make these iso´s. We tryed em at my friend do and it worked good on his newer ps2. So it shouldnt be any wrong with the iso´s. I want to find out whats wrong with my ps2 and im sure that i got backup cds which is burned properly and works on another machine. |
