Question Silver ps2 install advice

Hi i just installed a messiah 1.31 into the new silver ps2 50003 uk model.
It boots dvdr and psx1 games fine from standby (dvd-r) and movies, but it wont boot ps2 cdr rips in anyway when watching the drive spin with the lid off it spins for about 7 secs or so then the drive stops spinning and goes to the red screen.
Iv tried booting from standby, using eject and from powering up from the back to no avail .
Iv checked all wires and there fine iv chipped loads of ps2 but this is the first v9 iv done and have never come across this problem before can anyone help which wires to check?? or offer advice
cheers

use a meter on pads on m2 ,b-i it will show a short on legs or vias

or possibly just a bad connection (if using vias) this wont show up by testing pads

if using vias meter from cd/dvd legs to corresponding pad,if connection on via is good u will have continuity
