A Question About Halo

I don't know if this is against the forum rule? If it is, I apoligize in advance and I will delete this when notified.
I BOUGHT a copy of Halo, and I've installed it in my computer as well as in a friend's computer using the no cd patch. But when we tried to play online together, it won't let me. Is it because of the CD Key? Does anyone know how we can play with bypassing that? Thanks
