is it possible to patch dc games so you don't need a modchip to play back ups

i've heard you can patch games so you don't need a mod chip is this true or am i just thick????

You dont need a MOD chip to play DC backups. Just pop it in and play. Unless its non self boot.
Then you need a boot cd.

but sega have a new version of the console coming out, which the boot disc won`t work.
but the lads have already done a chip for this new version
