crazy PS2 problem

what's wrong with my ps2

i've looked at it for a while and basically

it makes this noise in the horizontal position that it doesn't in the vertical position.

could be vibration noise but not sure-don't thing so though wouldn't make sense

here's the funny thing and i checked this out :

Noise doesn't necessarily happen when you but the disc in and play it right a way

can take 10 -15 mins. or longer

example

i played nba live 2003 original for 10 mins okay then put in nba street vol 2 (backup)
okay then put in vice city (backup) noticed noise. then put in nba live 2003 orginal then noise on that one now.

no real order or certain disc that does it ( causes noise)
Can play nba street vol 2(backup)and think everything is fine then 20 mins into it noise starts and that' noise now on any dvd i play (actually never tried cd's).

laser lid tight cover of ps2 tight.

it's crazy.

Sounds like the lasers acting up once the console warms up, assuming the fan is working and the console isnt stoped up with dust ( which is what happens when you use one of Z's flip top covers) i would say the laser is starting to go.

Warlock no dust

fan works

I don't see how the laser would be going since it's new.

how would warming up the ps2 affect the laser anyway.

Also i played this thing for a couple of hours and i thought it was fine then all of a sudden the noise so i doubt the warming up thing is it.

only outside thing about the laser is a guy cleaned it and i thought he pressed too hard on the lens.

So could you get that problem from pressing to hard when you clean the lens??

thanks for your response Warlock

well, if its fine at first and then starts making unusual noises, freezing, laser clicking ect, after lengthy gameplay it MAY be a overheating problem, Without having the console in front of me any answer would be a guess so its hard to say for sure, also what chip do you have??

It does sound like it could be a overheating problem but if it makes less noise in the vertical position, keep it there. The laser can get a better pitch on the disc when placed on it's side anyway. The noise may be explained because the laser is trying to adjust the pitch on the discs at certain points. It won't have this problem stood vertically (or it won't be as noticeable).

Hope this helps...

I took my ps2 to a "pro" for him to look at and he said that after about 45-60mins the disc starting spinnning faster. too fast he said and that the laser has trouble reading the disc and that is the noise i hear-hard hmmming sound.

he disconnected the chip and said the noise went down alot.

what he is planning to do is put in other chip and see if the noise stays just as low.

I think -been told by others- that it's the laser and try replacing that or the ba5815 chip if not the laser. I told him about that he said he checked the ba chip and it's fine but i wonder if you can really be sure without replacing it.

I was thinking of just telling him to take off the wires and stuff and i'll take it to sony they said for 100CAN they would fix the ps2 no matter what's wrong.
I think it's a heating problem and when the chip is removed not as much heat is generated i'll bet if he did attach another chip it would act up again.

any thoughts would be greatly appreciated
thanks,
