Question Absolute Beginner

I am new to backing up ps2 games. my son keeps lending his games and when they are returned they are in a terrible state-some unplayable. I have successfully managed to backup cd-rom games but as yet I am not able to make backups of dvd-rom games as I only have a cd rewriter. can anyone tell me if it is possible to make backups of these games and if it is 1) can they fit on cd-r 80min/700Mb discs and 2) how is it done ie. which software/programme you need.

You need a ripkit. These can be obtained from www.alucard.cc and you will need a MINIMUM of a DVD-ROM drive to be able to read the DVD Games. DVD ReWriters are down to about £105 now or you can look on ebay for one - they have some great deals there. Ripkits usually need more than one CD-R and may span 3 or perhaps even 4. You will need to swap them. (To me that's a pain in the arse). Also, ripkits cut bits out of the game occasionally such as FMV's or videos to you and me.

Also, you may want to look here for some helpful PS2 advice and information.

Hope this helps...

Heck, if "Ripkits" and "Dvd burners" are still a bit out of your league for whatever reason, just get some finishing car polish.

You can buff most of those scratches out with car polish and a soft cloth. Its a lot cheaper than those cd/dvd specific polishes out there. And anyways you may have to do that before you try and back up those really scratched discs your son keeps gettin returned to him.
