Is my cd-key a legit one?
Hey there.
First off, let me begin by saying that I am NOT asking for a serial. A friend of mine had preordered SWOWWII and then changed his mind about getting it. I decided to buy it from him. The problem with this is that he claims that he (already) lost the cd case, but had written the cdkey on a sheet of paper and gave it to me. So my question is: Are there certain numbers that start legit cdkeys (similar to that of BF1942 and RtR) to make sure he gave me a legit cdkey? |

haha, i thought of that
![]() The reason I ask is because I am constantly disconnected from servers, but don't get any message about a bad cdkey or whatnot. So I want to find out if its a problem with my ISP (don't think so) or a problem with cdkey (think so). |

There are a lot of people who loose their cd cases as soon as they get the game home or whose mother, dog, sister, brother or cat has destroyed or lost their cd case.
They are all liars. |

That was my other concern.
For all I know, he could be sitting at home with a backed up cd of the one he sold me with the legit key on the cdcase, feeding me a lie and giving me a non-legit one using a "I lost the case" lie. So does anyone know if there are defining characteristics of legit cdkeys so I can check? |

Why would anyone bother to copy their 'legitimate' cdkey onto a piece of paper and then promptly 'loose' the cd case?
Obviously it is FAR easier to 'loose' a piece of paper rather than a whole cd case! I would refer your problem to the game manufacturer and see if they will supply you a new key. Tell them the cd key you were given and chances are they can confirm its authenticity. Last edited by Black Diamond; 04-09-2003 at 20:28. |

I.. write down all my cd keys in my address book... for keepsakes. I do that cuz I've had more than one instance of my cd cases "disappearing". ( I have over 8 neices & nephews )
But on the topic, sounds like this guy is playing you for a fool. Seems like a good friend.. yeah? |

I believe that it will say "CD key in use" or some such if you using a key that is in use by someone else.
