what mod chip to get?
i have a V5/6 ps2. i have the tendency to scratch games, so i want to make backups. ive been looking into gettin a mod chip to save some money from ruining games. just need some info on what i should be gettin. was thinkin bout the magic 3.6 or something along the lines of that. my friends tell me to get the flip top case. that seems like a hastle to me. just figured i would do it right. i also have read through some other posts & nobody has mentioned anything about HP dvd writers. any reason for that? i have an HP 300n, & the program it uses for burning is Record Now. will this prog let me burn the games i have? if not what should i get? it uses DVD+R, if that matters.

Theres alot of information in the Sticky above you, but going off my personal experience I wanted to get a Messiah2 but the modder I went to said he could get me a Magic that was flashed to behave like a Messiah (fixing some of its issues), so I went with that. Has worked like a charm, but appearantly does boot up games like Splinter Cell - ah well. And I dont know many people use the + writers because ps2 reads - alot better. Even reads the cheap "-" Great Quality DVD's I've used. I have a Pioneer A05. Cheers.

The reason you dont read much about the HP dvd writers is because not many people buy them for ps2 burning.
Ps2's have an excellent record with using dvd-r and are just recently being tested with dvd+r. I would say that about 85% of all newer v7 ps2's will read dvd+r. You may want to test one out on your ps2 when you get a chip. I wont answer the question of which chip you should get because obviously you havent read the NEWBIE sticky above all the other posts. Tyler!

dvd+r's work great for movies. Just rip one of the PS2 games u have, burn it to the dvdr and see if it works. Bada Bing.

If a movie that is burned on a DVD+R works in your ps2 then so will ps2 games that are burned on the same media.
The 2 best chips out now are Messiah 2 and Apple 2. You cant fail with either of those. Tyler!

I think you mean Apple Pro. Apple 2 is old.

Do NOT get a Magic 3.1. They are sh*t. Get a Messiah 2.
