No Spin

I just got a v3 from my friend, he "broke" it, but I thought I could fix it.

This was the original problem, this was pushed up, and wouldn't let the cd tray eject or close, but I fixed that, and now it ejects/closes without a problem (its not too fast or slow).

Is the ring around the thing that spins supposed to be loose like that?

Anyway, the disc just spins maybe 1/8, and the laser moves up and down.
If I push the laser all the way to the outside, and turn on the system, and close the tray, it will move itself back to the center and try to read the disc.

Just wondering if anybody had any clue in the neighborhood of help.

The system doesn't have a chip, either.

Thx in advance.

The only ps2 I saw that did that 1/4 turn thing an then did'nt read had a ribbon cable from dvd drive to motherboard connected incorrectly.

The dvd drive had power but no data getting to motherboard.

It could be that this is yr problem or that maybe wher the ps2 has been stripped a few times the ribbon has become slightly damaged.

Either way it's worth a strip down and check that main ribbon to dvd controller board an to ps2 motherboard are solidly connected.

Regards

Ya they just told me on PS2newz that the drive is broke (not the laser), but I counted up the repair bill....and decided not to repair.

Ima just go down to EB and get me a v8 or whatever they got, chances r I would have fixed it, and the eye would have been shot.

Sides, v8 is prob more mod-friendly than an ol v3 right?

Yes it does. The only thing it doesn't support is dvd backups on JAP v8 systems.

I think it is V9's which have the IR port on the front. I don't think V8's look any different.

Yeah, the only difference with a version 8 compared to version 7 is upgraded bios and slight differences on motherboard.

The version 9 (50000 series - built in IR unit/Progressive scan/quieter Fan etc) is only available in Japan at mo ( according to scee anyway!) although there was an australian dude on the forum going on about having one the other day.

Regards

That sukz. Why ain't they just sellin it worldwide?

I sent querie to scee about when it was gonna appear in europe an they said that scei had no plans to market it anywhere outside of Japan yet.

A few weeks later an they got it in Oz. SCEE either talk BS or don't know sh1t.
