does the mod chip allow a new dvd drive
my xbox is a first gen and the drive sucks it is broken and i want to know if a mod chip will allow me to just buy a new dvd rom from like best buy and put in in to read games and movies and everything instead of buying a 100 drive from microsoft.

Why don't ya search eBay for a drive. People sell parts all the time.

~WoMeNlOvEr ... so far ive moddded xboxes with: 2 Matrixes 3 Xbits My xbox!: -250 gig -XBIT -4981.06 x2 -orange led for light, matching beautifully with the orange x in the splash screen -Component cable my problem...solved?!: -one of my friends says he can get about 450 files off it!... and now i havent seen him for about 4 months..and ive written him like 11 emails.. Hes talking about a PC DVD-Rom if hes getting it from BestBuy.

Well yes and no. You need to a working XBox DVD-Rom to use a PC DVD-Rom with the XBox.
It isn't the chip that allows the new DVD-Rom to work.
