pirates of the carribean...help needed

wonder if someone could offer some advice....have copied using clone cd and managed to get a perfect copy...data wise...but on firing up the game with the copied CD1 in drive it doesn`t work and obviously needs something thats missing on the (copied) CD1 ... if i then put the original CD1 it in drive....it works!! (thats why i know the actual datas ok) so i just wondered if you people could offer any help , is it just a nocd prob? if so any ideas where i an get the crack, i`ve had no luck so far....or is it some other more devious kind of protection??? thanks for any help

Got the same problem as you, loaded the game with the copy, tried to play, no good, put original cd 1 in and it works!

Also tried the 2 cracks............ THEY DON`T WORK!

Cloney only reports as safedisc 2,

is this the copy protection, anyone know?

Does it give an error message ? If so, what error message ? It seems PotC is not protected (couldn't find any info anyways). In any case if the copy does not work exactly as the original, you did NOT make a 'perfect' copy, not by far. I suggest you make a hard disk image with Alcohol120% and try mounting that in Alcohol120%. If it works and plays right, you can try writing that image on a cd and see if that works too. If the image doesn't work, you're doing something wrong when making it.

Edit : Ah, so it's safedisc 2. Use the safedisc 2 profile in Alcohol120%, and be advised that most writers do not correctly write safedisc 2 to cdr. This means you usually still need a crack. However, if you make the image right, you will be able to play it from the hard disk, and you can do like me and write the image files themselves to cdr's. It's a step extra, but it will always work.

No if the backup cd does not work exactly like the original then it is NOT PERFECT. If you call a backup that fails the copy protection 'perfect', then what do you call a true 100% copy ? 'Perfect perfect' ? If Clony reports safedisc 2, then it is safedisc 2. And then you need either a safedisc 2 compatible writer, or a crack, or you work with an image like I describe above.

And leebe, if nobody sends you a crack, it might just be because there IS no crack for your version yet. If you can't wait for one to come out, use Alcohol120%. But stop posting the same question three times a day, this is beginning to look like board abuse to me.

its safe disc 2.9.0.4.0 to be exact hes using an old clonyxxl the american version is different to the european one the exe file so the cracks dont work cause we need the american exe file tto run it the game installs 100% from the backup but you need the original cd to run the game understand now? have you got the exe file we need or not ? if so can you email it to us please

Okay, so far we have lynxz here, who is unfailingly polite and willing to LISTEN to advice. He's now got his game up and running and I even have some more advise for him.

On the other hand, we have 'leebe', who refused to listen to any advise, and instead chose to spam the board asking for the same non existant crack, and then shot off a prize winning abusive pm to me, suggesting I do all kind of deviant sexual acts, most colorful. Mr leebe is no longer among us.

I hope future posters will see here how two vastly different approaches lead to two vastly different results. I don't ask much of life, but I sure hope 'leebe' isn't the psycho he seemed to be in his last pm, or I will have to get a bodyguard.

lynxz, thank you for proving that there are still normal people around, and if you're interested, I have a method that can reduce the image file to ~20Mb, so you can keep playing from the hard disk without losing 700Mb. You can also compress the image files with winrar so they will fit on one backup cd.

PS leebe : take your medications before you hurt someone or yourself

Okay, Cirkutz made a little utility, the Mini Image Ripper, that will take any safedisc 2 image and rip all data out, leaving only the copy protection info. Now this will not work for all titles, but it does work for at least Battlefield 1942, since I tested it myself. Go to Cirkutz's homepage, and click on the top link for the Mini Image Ripper, you can then download it. If you have trouble downloading, disable any download accelerators. If I used Getright, it couldn't find the file, but without Getright I didn't have any problem ten minutes ago. The tool itself is really simple to use, it will make a file with the .mir extension, just load that in Alcohol120% and see if you can still play the game. If you can, it's now safe to delete the old image files, or compress them with winrar and put them on cdr as a backup. You might have to switch to 'showing all files' to select the .mir file in Alcohol120%.

Oh, and the compressing of the image files is just so they take up their original amount of space. If you make image files, those are always ~100Mb bigger than the original data, so most games require these image files to be compressed in order to still fit on the same number of cds as the original data...

That's a symptom of a bad safedisc 2 copy : it will work in certain drives, but not in most others. Bad safedisc 2 copies may either not work in the writer, but do work in other drives, or vice versa. In any case, it's not a true 100% copy.

Is there a problem in not having a 1.1 copy, as long as there is a crack availible???

it just seems so complicated to make a 1.1 copy,

I like clone cd it`s so easy
