SecuROM *new* V 4.8x
Does anybody know how to copy this type of protection without having to use a NO CD?

For the moment, Plextor Premium is the only burner that can do a true 1:1 backup of this protection (99.9% close to 1:1 according to a german site!) thanks to Gigarec built into its firmware (This only works with latest Blindwrite and only with Securom 4.8x though, not Starforce)
HOWEVER: 1:1 backup is not needed, it is possible to make a working copy that does not need any active securom emulator (ie. loaded in memory, like Alcohol 120% securom emulation). To this day only Blindwrite can do this using built-in 'twinpeaks' method. Download the latest Blindwrite, it has a tool called 'BWAbuilder' which creates a small .BWA media descriptor file (like the .MDS Alcohol files) containing the sector density layout info of the CD. Just follow the BWA instructions in the enclosed .doc file. -> Remember to give the .bwa file the same name as the .bwi CD image. -> the backup created from the Blindwrite image and the .bwa file is a working copy, but since it is not 1:1, ie. it does not have the sector density variations of the original, you MUST store the .bwa file aside should you later need to make a copy of the backup. Or simply get Alcohol 120% with Alcoholer and use Alcoholer's Twin Creator! Thats how I made a backup of NWN: SoU

'Twin Creator'?! - never heard of it. Are U sure it makes working backups that don't need any active emulation ? If so it must be just like Blindwrite's twinpeak method, using an .mds filemade by Alcohol instead of a Blindwrite .bwa ..

TwinPeak = TwinCreator, and yes, I don't think I said a 1:1 backup, but a WORKING copy

hum... so I guess these methods R all THE SAME as time goes on - so I'll jus' stick to good ole' Blindwrite & BWAbuilder.

Nah, Alohol 120% has a much higher precision, thats why its best to use instead of BlindWrite, and THEN patch it with TwinCreator.
Alcohol 120% has everything BlindWrite has, but its much much much better. Their new version will include a protection scanner .THE ULTIMATE TOOL! |

correction: Alcohol 120% PLUS Alcoholer may be better than Blindwrite, true enough.
Not that simple to use, nor user-friendly though... Quote:

I never go for USER friendly, I would rather use DOS than Windows if it would give me better quality and performance
.I think Alcohol may be included with Alcohol 120% soon! |

i got a problem ..
i tried to copy the gothic 2 Addon with alcohol 120% (together with Alcoholer) and with blindwrite too but both copys don´t work. the CD is protected with SecuROM v 4.8x. Álcohol gives an error when i start to image ...... DPM cannot be read or something like that... Blindwrite gives an error when it starts to use the BWAbuilder. So the image doesn´t work ... PLZ help me .. |

The errors U get denote 2 possible causes:
- Your reader/burner is not compatible with BWAbuilder. What's the brand?????? If U have several CD units, test each one by running BWAbuilder at 8x on a normal DATA CD: if the device is compatible, then the graph will show a smooth parabolic curve. - The CD protected with Securom also has bad sectors. U can find that out using Nero's 'CDspeed' utility (freeware): run the 'scandisk' test with the 'surface scan' option. On the graph, deliberate read errors (bad sectors part of a protection) will appear as a series of adjacent red squares. Note down the percentage of these red squares (% of CD that's damaged). If the protection combines Securom and bad sectors, then it's normal that DPM and BWA fail on the disk: the read errors prevent them from completing the physical reading - this is a very recent variant of Securom, and today's software is powerless against this new devilry. In that case, the only solution for now is to find a No-CD crack 4 the game... Unless U try reading with BWA at very low speed, ie. 1x or 2x. And remember, make sure the reading unit is BWA-compatible -> Be very careful when choosing a crack since recent versions of Securom have "security-triggers" that check for the protection throughout the gameplay. If the crack is only "partial", then the game will freeze during play. The only way to make sure the crack is effective is to complete the whole game from beginning to end... Viel glück, comrade - you'll need it

On Securom + 'Bad sectors' hybrids (such as 'Soldier Of Anarchy', UK version), the bad sectors do not overlap the increased sector density areas (obviously, as the latter contain game data), and I've heard it's possible to "complete", or patch, the incomplete MDS or BWA file, but I don't know how - besides this is way beyond my scope.. Don't forget to test each CD unit for compatibility with BWAbuilder. |
