somethign werid going on on my net and winxp
yes i log on the net and i can just be sitting there not doing a thing and its transfering like if i was d/l something but its not d/l anything and when i goto web pages it slows me way down is this a virus or a trojan cause i log on task manger and seen somethings working that should'nt be so i end the prosses and it stops transfering is there end way to stop this stuff for good in task manger so i wont have to end prosses ever time i log on also i got trojan remover it cant find any trojans and got nortins anti virus and it found nothing so if i could just stop this program from working all togather it may fix my problem

sometimes windows or other apps start downloading updates by themselves if you don’t configure them otherwise.
Also there are a lot of apps that start automatically when windows starts, but this little tool allows you to see everthing that is started when windows starts and can prevent them from starting.

Download Zone Alarm from www.zonelabs.com . You can controll what programs can and can not have access to your internet.

I have used Zone Alarm, Norton, and a few others, and I always come back to McAfee Personal Firewall.......
Very user friendly, easy to set up, and will tell you in GREAT DETAIL what is happening with your internet connection.... The built-in firewall in Win XP is a JOKE.... Disable it and get a REAL firewall.....

According to this page, It was symantec live update engine.

hmm usely the updates has the mircosoft 4 color flag in the task bar right now i got a update going and it has this. first time i ever had one just start d/l w/o telling me first or letting me pause it

I also use mcafee personal firewall. Very easy to use but at the same time very detailed. To stop programs from running on windows start up you can disable them manually by clicking on start - run - then type msconfig , then click on the start up tab and uncheck whatever you don’t want to be running and reboot. Give that a try.
