Retail KOTOR crashing in modded xbox
I have a retail copy of Star Wars: KotOR, and it crashes either when attempting to load a new game or when trying to switch menu options to anything outside of "New Game".
I get the same crashes on my harddrive backup copy, and ***When my modchip is turned off*** And it works in my brother's unmodded xbox, which seems to rule out a bad disk. What on earth is going on here? What can possibly differentiate my xbox from my brother's when the modchip is off? |

hmm I haven't heard of anything like that before so I will take a blind guess and say ...it's some kind of memory error? It sounds like it crashes when it tries to access the hard drive or memory. Is the hard drive full?

For the sake of troubleshooting, I swapped in my old xbox harddrive, and the game appears to work fine when run off the dvd with my old HD installed.
So I guess that isolates the problem somewhat. What now? |

Hmm, this game has some serious glitched in conjuction with my xbox. They can all be avoided. For instance, sometimes the game may have trouble loading for no reason, every time I'd move or scroll through the start menu, it would freeze for 20 seconds or so. If I were to save a game while it was doing that, I would put it into what I like to call the "white screen of death". The game would not work until I deleted the new save that was being created (ie as soon as I loaded the game it would start loading an area then freeze when the bar gets full).
I have seen many glitches that dealt with my xbox powering off and when I'd power the game back on it would start off where I left off for no damn reason, like before a cinema. My only advice is to check your save games in the xbox dashboard frequently if the game keeps freezing when trying to load. You might come across a savegame with no snapshot and the black xbox jewel picture in its place. Save often in different save spots. I do not know how I can help your problem, but I get those freezing glitches too.

There was a post at xbox-scene that addressed my problem, 7 pages into it.
![]() Had to start up 3 non-KOTOR games in a row to clear my cache, then delete the autosaved savegames in my udata and tdata folders, and then start it up with the modchip off so it would create non-corrupted cache/savegame files odd. |

Thats seems to be alot of work. If it stops working, try going into the ms dashbaord mem manager and look under the kotor saves. If there is one that just appears as a black circle with the xbox logo in it, try deleting it first as that might be a quicker solution.
