Question Are 1:1 backups still possible?

I have not been able to make a 1:1 fully playable backup of any of the newer games like Sim City 4, NOLF2, Raven Shield, Hitman2, etc. I have read the Copying CD's FAQ on the Alcohol board. I have a Liteon drive and when I try to use for example Nero and set the options like I have been told it usually just sits on track 0 or 1 forever or at least until I get bored and kill the burn. I have a friend though that says with his Yamaha drive he can back up any game with Nero. If I use Clone CD it makes a copy but usually when I run the game it wants the original disc still.

So my questions:

1) Are 1:1 backups possible anymore? Or do you have to use Virtual CD's or Daemon Tools?

2) Does Nero even copy the newer protected games? (He says he copied Morrowind and NWN just fine)

3) I find the easiest way is to just copy all the files off of the original CD and then back onto a blank and then go to GCW and get the crack. Or is there a better way?

Thanks for the help.

I dunno, is it blacklisted ? That's usually what they try to do : detect Alcohol120% and refuse to run. The makers of ALcohol120% and Dameon Tools regularly bring out new versions that dodge this blacklisting, so it might be a temporary setback.

I don't wanna be a smart aleck, but talking about 1:1 copies, we have to admit that they are almost impossible. There is a difference between 1:1 copies and working backups.

They're still possible for Safedisc 2, and a lot of older protections that nobody uses anymore. But yes, I expect safedisc 2 to go the same 'media characteristics' way as Securom, so the days of true 1:1's are probably numbered...

So is this new method using a Plex Premium and the latest Blindwrite a 1:1 copy or a working backup?

From what i've heard the physical characteristics seem to match pretty closely.
