Installing evox

I've read the evox for dummies thread and I think that I can install it without any problems.

However, I want to use my X-box on X-Box live. The guy in the shop I'm going to use says he can install a disable switch but I'm unsure of how to set up evox to boot to the Microsoft OS when the chip is disabled.

The evox for dummies thread says "rename xboxdash.xbe to msxboxdash.xbe". If I do this will the Xbox still boot to the Microsoft OS when the chip is disabled?

I am planning to get a x-ecuter 2.2 installed. Another shop says that they can install an evox 3.6 mod chip. Does anyone have any opinions on the evox mod chip?

you can get a bios or configure you'r bios to boot from evox.xbe so you dont have to rename the xboxdash once you do this the bios will boot from evox.xbe so when the chip is turned off it will boot from you'r original xboxdash.xbe

One other thing I forgot to ask. Is it possable to boot evox off of a DVD every time you want to use a backup therefore meaning that the Microsoft OS doesn't have to be changed?

first of all you don't need evox running just to boot backup games you can do this from the msxbox original dash. evox is used so you can set a ip and create a network to the pc. you have to have evox running from the xbox hd inorder to run the network and transfere games from xbox to pc etc. if you just want to play games you don't need evox. i don't know how this applies to live as i don't have it yet

if you still want evox caz you do need it to burn games, here is a program that can edit your bios (it is completely legal)

get it at http://www.xbox-scene.com/tools/tools.php?page=bios

i think it's called XBtool

Thanks for all the help so far

I've found an xecuter bios that stops the xbox from rebooting when you press eject. If I installed this bios onto the chip would I be able to ftp my xbox to my PC from an evox cd-rw, eject the evox CD and then copy a game across to my PC?

Assuming that this is possable would my xbox be able to play backups even if evox isn't installed on the HDD?

I've had xecuter 2.2 installed and I've found that, as long as you have the bios that stops the Xbox from rebooting when you use the reset switch, you can copy game DVD's to your PC without having to install evox onto your hard disk.

I know that some people may find having to run Evox off of a CD every time they want to network their Xbox to their PC annoying but I prefer doing it this way as it reduces the risk of Xbox Live screwing up my system.

wait, I thought that's what the auto-detect of the evoXdash.xbe that team xecuter put on there chip solved since you no longer had to re-name the xboxdash.xbe.

Yea this does work. Thanks for that tip guys having Evox on the HD is a lot more convenient than having to boot off of a CD every time
