Follow up to bad DVD-R writes

A while back I did a thread about light patches of write surface after I had burned a ritek dye dvd-r.

Well, I know the problem for reference.

Recently I did a dvd-r ( Clone Disk-Ritek Dye) and it came up with a light splotch in middle of dark written part of write surface.

In the middle of the splotch was a piece of dust, This had interfered with the write process.

I stuck it straight back in and RNM4.5 read an image off of it okay, however a month later it had problems reading the dvd.

Now, as I said, I checked all my dvd-r's and found several with light patches like this, luckily they all read back in and I was able to make new back-ups but it is well worth doing a serious inspection of yr dvd-r before u lob it in the burner and keeping the dvd writer tray very clean an free from dust!!

Regards

I always give my blank discs a blow before sticking them in to be burned.

while we on the subject I have actually found light write surface to be a lot more reliable and long lasting, it just a shame that the ps2 don't like em. Oh well... If the 50000 series makes it out of japan then maybe it will read light surface better, and there's always the PSX at end 2003. I assume that will have new laser type in as it apparently does everything except knock up a cup of tea.

I think you just have bad luck. You strike out with Verbatim and CloneCD. Small odds for that to happen. I have never had a backup go bad.

Well, To be honest I put lettle faith in clone CD. The earlier versions were okay but later versions got very picky about what burners it would support.

Never had any problems backing up though. I use Alcohol120% or RNM4.5. Just as good with CD and DVD.

Had problems initially with ldvd-r but that was due to light write surface dvd-r. As soon as I switched to dark surface have had few problems.

CloneDisc r definitely the best I have used so far ( Better than dvdmaster and traxdata) in value for money to sucess rate.

But would like to give verbatim dark purple a go. They have sucjh a good rap.

Regards
