I have found PS2 Reality player to be a bit um...... how do u put it, well crap really.

I had a movie on divX .avi file so stuck it onto a cd ( Mode2/XA 2352, just to be safe!) and PS2 Reality couldn't find a codec to play it so then tried a simple 6 meg part of a simpsons episode on a very low quality .avi and tried to play that and it came up with sound format not supported.

It is very picky on what it will and won't play.

I'm very suprised that there ain't a bit of commercial software that will play divX, standard avi and vcd.

I am aware of mpg limitations on the ps2 but surely there is a way around it, for instance ps2 isn't meant to be multi region but tell AR2 that!!!!

Regards

I am not positive but PS2Reality 1.25 may not have supported Divx codecs of 5.x. The new version 1.28e supports 5.x Divx codecs. As for the sound you have to be sure that the sound is encoded in MP3 format. If not it will either say unsupported sound format or may play but with no sound. At this point I have acollection of about 20 Divx movies that play totally fine. I have even managed to fit up to 8 movies o one DVD, which I must say is a plus.

I have played heaps of Divx Movies without any problems. Quite a good player but much better off being played on computer.

I have had much success with the ps2 reality media player and I have the newest vesion. I have played many Divx movies and even an Xvid movie on it. I have even played around with the mp3 player feature.

My only complaint was when I was watching TLOTRTTT is awesome video quality, the player had to load the buffers every 20 mins or so. It got kinda annoying but I think the PS2 Media player is overall good.

Have just tried RPlayer 1.28e and got error both times I tried to play .avi.

DivX file is fine as last night I converted to mpeg2 and made dvd of it and that plays fine in ps2, also I can't understand why it won't play this 6 meg .avi file. it not even divX, just standard .avi and won't touch it.

That's WHY it won't play.

"Standard AVI" is a misnomer.

AVI is just a file format, the actual data is compressed (or not compressed) based on a codec.

PS2Reality plays a limited number of codecs, including DIVX and XVID. It probably can't play i263, or Indeo5, or any of a dozen other really common AVI codecs.
