PS2 backups and Modchips - how stable?

I'm still having trouble burning ps2 backup images. I've burned hundred of games for pc using cdrwin, but can't get it to work on PS2. So far the ones I've gotten to work crash quite often during the game or have extremely long load times and sometimes the same disc doesn't work at all. Just wondering if this is normal, or is it supposed to work perfectly everytime you boot up a backup using the R1 + O method?

What type of burner do u have, try using CDRs
what speed are u at? try burning at a slower speed. Are the games DVD or CD?

i'm using verbatim datalife plus azo blue cdr's, and i've tried burning as low as 2x, maybe i need 1x, i'm pretty sure the images are good cause some of the games almost work, or work sometimes and not others. i really don't know what else to try. could it just be my cdrwin not burning ps2 games correct? but for pc it works flawlessly

Deet,

the media your using is the best, so cross that off your list, what modchip do u have?? what boot cd r u using??

have u had any ps2 backups working okay???

Also have you tried using CLONE CD to make a PS2 backup, if your writer is compatible download a 21 day free trail see how that goes. Making PS2 backups should not be giving u this much grief.

Also what games are you trying to backup???

Hear from you soon

Dal

Hi, I have the Neo 2.2 chip with gameshark 1.9. so far clonecd has worked for me perfectly on the 1 image i have in that format. but i dl'd most others in .bin format and other people who did the same had no trouble with them. games like madden2002, klonoa2, nba street. i've gotten them to work 1 or 2x without freezing, but most of the time it has extremely long load times and i can hear the disc being read alot. but like i said psx and clonecd's have worked flawlessly. Thanks for any help

You didn't mention which burner you have.

These appear to be the symptoms of a weak burner or a dirty or miscalibrated PS2 laser. If miscalibrated, you'd have read problems with nearly everything.

Hi,

You are not the only person having problems booting games you have downloaded off the web. I cant help you on that as i dont do it but sometimes your find that the BIN fiile your downloading are either full of errors or not the whole BIn file of the game your downloading. Do you also get a CUE file with the games you download.

If you can stick to making your backups from CDs not the web.

Cheers

Dal

Hi m8,

I have modified a lot off ps2 and have to many games but all work fine! I burn the games at 12x so al people telling you it's the write speed, don't belief them!!!I also using cdr-win and cloneCD or win on to go or easy cd pro and nero all works fine!

I have the neo2.0 so yours must work beter but when i read your problem you have a problem with your laser and not the chip or cdr's or write speed! I wonder did you install the chip at your ouwn?
Did you use the cap? and have you use all 8 wires?
Some times you must calibrate the laser! if you want to know how look at www.playstationmods.com.

Hope you can fix it! If you need more to know come and talk to me add irc.wondernet.nu #leechandburn or my site leechandburn.cjb.net

Hello there, I just want to know if it is nesseary to calibrate the ps2 laser, when using the neo 2.2 ? I have heard that we only have to calibreate with neo 2 !!
If I need to then, How much do I have to set it down? (from 1023 ohm to about 600 ?)

Thanks

You shouldn't have to recalibrate the laser. It could cause problems with PS2 originals.
