msi 8340 burn speed limits

Greetings, any help here would be greatly appreciated.

I have an msi 8340 burner, 40,12 48.
i am having problems with my burn speed settings with alcohol and nero.
It keeps defaulting to 16x as the max burning speed, it is not a media limitation, as the drop down boxes don't even show anything above the 16x speed this is before the programs even inspect the disc.
I have flashed the burner with the latest firmware.
Usually don't have these kinds of problems, gettin frustrated!

msi 845 ge max mobo
2 x maxtor 80 gig drives
geforce4 ti4200 128 meg ram agp 8x version
1 gig ddr

Thumbs up

Thanks for the reply,
Everything is right up to date, nero ver. is 5.5.10.35.
Alcohol is 1.4.3 build 410.
is that icon from streetfighter?
I am operations manager for coin-op video game distributor here on the west coast, we distribute for Sega, Konami, I.t.s etc. and that picture looks very familiar.

Hmmm, I would try different media.

p.s. The icon is Billy Lee from the Double Dragon series. This particular one is from Super Double Dragon.

I am having the same exact problem with my Philips CRW2412. It should be able to write at 24x, but all my programs are only show up to 16X in the dropdown boxes. It used to work at 24X but stopped all of the sudden.
