The crack worked fine for me.. I hear that Mcrae should have installed some custom (media) codecs... perhaps thats what is messing the game up for you?

yes the deviance crack works fine without fading away.
the codecs are needed for the inro (media player 9 codec).

Hey cdkiller,

Off-topic: Is it possible that the stupid Media Player _9_ codec is the _only_ reason why the game doesn't run under Windows '98?

(I don't have the game - I didn't like the series - but my ex-colleague keeps picking on me, saying that now there are games that only work with Windows XP and, therefore, I should upgrade. Which I won't do for another few years anyway... )

Joe

you'll have to upgrade soon as windows 9x only has a few more 'support months' left before microsoft phaze it out and stop supporting it all together, windows me is then next on the hitlist, so you're left with 2k or xp, i went for 2k because xp is too cosmetic for my liking

you can try to replace the intro with a dummy avi file
there were two different codecs on the install cd.
maybe one is for win9x, browse the cd for it.

I have McRae 3 and also after a full install i got a error message saying that a certian codec was not installed correctly (or something simela). However i still used the nocd and ran the game fine with no probs at all. (all the movies are there and the game runs fine). I am guessing i must of either had the needed codec allready installed or the error message was incorrect. Im on XP pro which is up to date with all updates. Mabey that had something to do with it working ok ?. Its worth a try tronnix and if no luck browse the cd with the codecs and try a manual install .
