an agruement that needs to be solved

me and a friend of mine were having this arguement and the people here can settle it. he wants to buy a newer xbox so it has the samsung dvd and then chip it but he wants to take the harddrive out of the old one and place it into the new xbox so he doesn't lose his saved games. I'm pretty sure that it won't work but then again I could be wrong. So anybody got the answer?

Your right,

Each of XBox's hard drives are locked each has it's own code thats why you back up the drive first through Evox then you ftp tho swap a drive. Your friend can do like I did just swap the dvd rom drive, Samsung is better than Thomson

You might be able to unlock the drive and then change em. I dunno, never tried.

It can be done, you have to unlock the drive and stick it in the new XBox. The only prob is you can't lock the drive to the new XBox.

What I would really ask is: Is it even worth the trouble? Saved games aren't exactly that hard to replace.

dude
if all he wants to do is to keep his game saves tell him to copy the TDATA and UDATA folders from his original hd in drive E, and ftp them to his new xbox's hd drive E
job done all the game saves without having to mess with the hd.
