Maken X selfboot

I selfbooted Maken X without ripping out any files or needing to overburn.

There's actually quite a lot of (small) duplicate files, and you can easily modify the file system so that they occupy the same space on the disc. Well, "easily" except for the fact there are a lot of them, so I actually wrote a new tool to shorten this task for me.

Anyway, one more "unselfbootable" game bites the dust.

:-)

Tell us more.

By the way, do you know how to selfboot "Perpetual Blue" ("Yukyu Gensokyoku 3"), from R18 ? I wasted a few CDs on this one...
It's the very last one I couldn't make selfboot.

There's nothing to tell. You only need to free up about 1 mb to get this to selfboot on an 80min, Echelon just didn't look hard enough.

There's actually about 20 mb worth of duplicate files. You simply leave the first file in tact and convert to zero bytes all the others which contain the same data. Then it's simply a matter of patching the LBA/Size information from one to the other... of course to do this manually would take you hours. I'd be happy to post the tools I wrote quickly this morning, except that it'd take me an hour to write out some documentation for it and that I'm not willing to do right now, I suspect most people don't really care.

But like I said, you only need to free about 1 mb which is 2 or 3 of the biggest duplicate files, and anyone can do that. The CD file system is pretty straight forward, just use your hex editor.

I've never heard of the game you mentioned. Did you manage to selfboot WWTBAM? They used some weird execuatable format to pack the 1ST_READ.BIN and make it incompatable with binhack. Perhaps it needs to be descrambled or something, who knows?

Hmm, okay. I'll write a quick guide for the tools and put them up on my site this week. Should be useful for squeezing a few megs out of a few games. I did this with Psychic Force 2012 to fit in on a nonboot but with completely in tact, nothing downsampled, unlike the Kalisto nonboot. But that was much simpler because the duplicate file names had an easy template.

Sorry I didn't up Speech Pack 3 yet, I've been getting my MAME ROMs up to date this weekend :-) But will do it this week as well.

Okay, it Put it on my software page.

It's the "Multi File LBA Copier" - it was two tools but I merged it into one. Anyway, try it out and see if it works (no promises, I didn't even test it yet).

Sorry, I'm very busy learning XBOX stuff. I'll try your tool tomorrow or anyway ASAP. Then I'll post the result here.

It requires total rebuilding of the ISO, not just patching... in other words the PPF would be 679 megabytes.
