DVD + R/W Back Ups??

Here's the case:

I have a version 2 Playstation 2. I have a DVD burner that can only burn DVD + R/RW. My mod chip is that SBOX USB one. A gameshark is needed to start the Playstation2 games..

My question is, will a DVD+R/RW backup work on my playstation2? I get reports that it wont, but I'm hoping that it would.. can someone please enlighten me?

Not only will your laser not be able to handle +r/+rw, but the sbox doesn't allow you to play dvd backups anyways. Time for a new ps2 and mod if you really want to get into the backup scene.

Maybe it's not time for a new PS2 and mod chip. I'm willing to return/resell, depending on whats going to happen, and buy a DVD burner that can write both + and - (btw I think its really confusing between the two mediums..). Now as for the modchip, I went to modchip.com and found out there is something called a Slide Card.. that would allow me to play DVD-R backups without installing a new chip... but is it really good? Please tell me...

Umm... no.

The slide card is carp.

It's like the knife trick, only without the pointy object.

...

And returning the DVD burner may or may not help, since I'd say it's doubtful that any v2's at this point are gonna read a lot of -R media either... although it's MORE likely to read -R than +R.

You seriously need a real mod chip, dude. Sorry.

Well, I'm going to buy a +/- Burner regardless for flexibility for the future. Are there any non soldering chips that are good?? I don't want to have to dish out more money to solder...

There is the no solder chip, but it isn't up to par compared to solder chips. It doesn't even play all games. If you are looking to save some money go with an Apple. You can get one for under $30, but it requires soldering, like all good chips do.

And honestly, the no-solder chip is not much better than the SBOX chip you have now. You still need a GameShark/Action Replay in order to play many games, and ... it's just a pain in the rump. Add to that the fact that there's a growing list of games it just won't boot (especially with an older system like yours) and it's not worth it.
