GTA3...Save...How ?

Hi,

Could someone tell me how to save in GTA3 ?

I cant progress very far with the game if i have to keep starting
back at the bridge by the burning wrecks.

I can go through the door,
and the door closes behind me.

At this point i can see that it is possible to save the game up to
that point, so long as you've done the last mission.

Fine.
So i have a 'Save' option before me.

Then what?
i have tried all of the buttons.
i have tried all of the buttons then switching off.

Do i have to get an extra part?

Do i just switch off without pressing any buttons?

I cant see any instructions anywhere ...

Cheers, John

OK, so the save function is hilighted so you must be able to save. So, have you formatted your memory card? If not, insert the memory card and reset the system without any game in. Go to Browser and click on the memory card. It should ask you to format it. Click 'Yes' and then reboot the game and go back to the save point. You will now be able to save.

Hi lufcfan,

Well i got to its browser ok, just by starting it with
no CD in there, as you said,
but nothing about formatting.
I am not the only user of this machine so i guess that
the other user has formatted the memory unit. Maybe he
found some instructions that i never saw.

It initially offers 'enter' or 'version'
enter shows a pic of the memory module,
and offers 'enter' or 'back'
enter tells me its a memory card with 7.4 kb free
and offers 'enter' or 'back' or 'options'
enter tells me a date, a time, and 5 kb, copy, delete
and offers 'enter' or 'back'

I assume its been formatted and has something saved,
when starting with this card in its slot, the game
doesn't start at the burning wrecks on the bridge,
it starts at the garage/room place.

So someone has managed to save after what was probably
the first mission. The other user tells me he did save
but he doesn't know how he did it. He has been unable
to make any more saves.

So if you could tell me which button to press when its
time to save, i will give it another try!

Cheers, John

Hi again. Do you have any error messages at all when you come to save? How many saves do you have on your card? This may help if the following doesn't work.:

By the sounds of things, the card is formatted. So, to save, go to the door in the warehouse (next to the garage) and up should come the save option (you know this anyway). Then, if save is hilighted, press 'X' and up should come another screen, showing save slots. If your partner has saved, then just hilight that game and press 'X' again. It will ask you to confirm the overwrite and click 'OK'. You will get a new message when the save is complete and press 'X' to OK this too. The game should save.

Hi lufcfan,

No, no error messages.
I don't know how many saves are on it. (5kb used)
yes, i have had another screen come up with a sort
of list on it, they looked like they might be missions.

So if i get back to that bit, i have to highlight the
mission thats just been done, then press 'X' then
confirm by pressing 'X' again, then i should get a message to say the save is complete, and i press 'X'
to ok this too - is that right ?

I will try that soon as i get another mission done.
BTW, the other user is just a friend, not a partner.

Many thanks, i hope thats ok now, i will reply to
let you know if thats it!
Cheers, John
