Question Which software for dvd-backup?

Hi I've just bought a Pioneer A05 DVD-writer bulk version. I just have some questions:

1 Which firmware shall i use for the writer? heard that many people have updated their firmware

2 How do you update the firmware?

3 Which software do you use when backing-up DVDs?

4 Do you use the same software for ripping and burning?

Think that's all for now.... but I'll properbly be back with more questions later

Thanx Friis

I'm using hacked 1.30 firmware that allows 2x writing on 1x media and will increase the rip speed of dvds
You simply run a bat file and it does it automatically.
If you are looking to backup dvd movies then you have a number of options:
You can use DVDXCopy which will do the complete operation of ripping and burning in the one go - however it will probably require two blank dvd disks to copy a movie because original media is dual layered (DVD9) and so double the capacity of blank dvdr media (DVD5).
If you want it on one disk then you will first need a tool to rip the disk to your hard drive (Smartripper or DVD Decrypter), then a program that will compress the movie to fit (DVD2One or DVDShrink which is freeware), then finally software to burn the files (CopytoDVD can be handy as it can be linked into from DVD2One, or you can go for Nero as well as many other good burning apps)

If you are looking to burn a data dvd then you can just use Nero to author and burn.
Well as said above, DVDXCopy will rip and burn, but the other methods will need separate programs.

And btw there's also DVDXCopy Express which will rip, compress and burn so it will fit on the one disk - I prefer the DVD2One compression.
