"new" ps2 ?s

The "new" ps2 at best buy features-
-Network adapter
-Enhanced DVD player functions plus progessive scan support
-Built-in infrared receiver for remote control
-reduced player noise
according to the add it is $180!

My question is will this play video CDs and what is "progessive scan support"? Also does any one know what V these are because I want to put a messiah 2 in it.

http://www.progressivescan.co.uk/interlaced.php

The above URL discusses the advantages of Progressive Scan over Interlaced Scan. Basically Progressive Scan removes the interlace lines by scanning the frame in one go rather than interlacing in two goes (alternate lines).

This particularly suits modern display devices that don't use lines.

As to what PS2 version, I haven't seen the model, but it's likely to be v7 or v8 because it's 39001 /N.

Someone needs to open it up and report what they see.

to add to the list i read in one of the sales adds that the new ps2 can read dvd-r's. i wonder what this means for modding...

also, everyone around me is selling the new ps2 for 200 and the old one for 180.

That just means that the laser is specifically calibrated to read recordable media... whereas before it was happy chance that it did.

More media should work in this new model.

yeah please do, i would like to hear all about how it works and if i should do another exchange with my best buy PRP (product replacement plan) and get the new ps2.

who knows, if it works well and now has a beter laser suited towards recordable media, i too just might splurge and get rid of my no solder and go for the M2....

i'm a cheap bastard..................................

Sorry to tell you huys but the "new" ps2 online pack is just a normal V7 system packaged w/ an Broadband adaptor. However I have heard that the actuall 50001 systems are supposed to come out on the 10th. So we will see.

Yeah the supposed New ps2s are just re-packages old ones with the network adaptor slapped on. I was all hyped up for te new re-model until we got them in at work and opened one up to check it out.....man was I sorely dissapionted...What bothered me even more was that the Sony Rep. for my store was saying it was gonna be the re-model as well....

A Messiah 2 1.31 is needed for the new SCPH-50000 though.

I guess the board and the bios is the same but the interrior design is different so that there is less sound
the 1.31 chip is just a change of design I guess
