Game CAB file extraction

Without using the games installer to decompress, is there any way of extracting CAB files or other compressed files from a game cd? The formats never seem to be recognised by archive software. Do they use their own formats? I want to modify some files and rebuild the archive as it was. Is there a way to do it?

Yes you use a tool called i6comp, search the forum for 'i6comp' and you'll find some helpful threads.
However, the installation cab files are updated frequently and the newer game cabs probably won't be able to be opened by i6comp
You must run i6comp from the command prompt - there should be some instructions in it's readme.
