V7/ knife trick?

Hi all

I know the knife trick is frowned upon, but having bought a V7 PS2, I tried this trick with a CD game backup all of which had previously worked with my old V4, and it wouldn't work. I am not going to bother anymore (all negative threads about knife trick have scared me off), but out of curiousity - is it definately not possible to boot CD-R backup games with AR2 + knife trick

The knife trick doesn't work with v7 systems.

Can't really afford anything other than a no-solder modchip, I am sorry to say (went to www.netpcdirect.co.uk) chip is £13.99! I already have AR2 V2.

Well some more bad news for you now mate....sorry!

The action replay/Gameshark discs DO NOT work with version 7 machines. They somehow know that the swap has taken place...regardless if it's a no solder mod, or neo2.2 and refuse to boot.

The only way to boot them is to use the swap magic 2 discs...which not only cost you more money, but also don't work with many games out there. Trust me because i've been using the swap magic 2/no solder combination in my version 7 As it's only a backup machine at the moment. ....Ie, i've got a v5 no swap combination as well

The best thing i can suggest is to speak to them and ask them to change you're order to a messiah 2. It's only gonna end up costing you the same as buying both the no solder and the swap magic discs anyway.

Hi Jay_83

Does that apply to DVD-R game backups also - cos their blurb of the website says chip works with Swap Magic AND Action Replay 2 for DVDs

eh.........confusion reigns!! I have been naive. Unfortunately cannot afford qutoed prices of £100+ to have a 'proper' modchip fitted, so options are limited, but the swap magic discs and risk them not working on some games or try flip top lid (does this work with v7)?

Thanks for all your input guys

Don't bother with a no solder and swap magics. Save up and get a Messiah 2.

Flip tops are just an easier way of doing the "LH swap", where the disk drive cover is removed. You'd still need the swap magic discs to boot PS2 backups with these methods on a V7.

If at all possible, try to get a no swap mod instead though...

Yes m8, the action replay swap doesnt work for either cd, or dvd backups on a v7 machine
