Can someone please clarify...

The main reason I want to mod my PS2 is so that I can play AVI movies that are burned on a cd, not VCD's... Anyway, I got some good responses here and I went to order from a site and I decided to ask them before I ordered. They tell me that you CAN NOT play back AVI files burned on cdr with the Messiah 2...

Is this true? Will any modchip allow me to do this??

Thanks

Yes its True...

But..

Thats why u download the ps2reality player. That way u can play avi, and Divx movies. There problem solved.

And u really should get the Messiah 2 , Ull run into fewer problems with your backups.

Edit: Also refer to this post here for more info on the PS2 Modchips.

The chip itself will not play movies, this is true. But then again, neither will any other chip, or any other system.

The PS2Reality player plays DIVX encoded AVI's, no problem. I can't vouch for AVI's encoded with OTHER codecs, but DIVX works great.

They either do not know of PS2 Reality or the way your question was phrased led them to believe that you where asking if the chip alone clould play the avi files.

I just got another reply from the site... Really strange this is what they said:

you can play those on your computer why do you need to play on ps2?

OK, that's true but when I am asking you about a $100 (CDN) product that you sell wouldn't you try to be helpful...

This was my first question:

I am interested in purchasing a Messiah 2 modchip for my PS2.
Regardless of what version my PS2 is, will this modchip allow me to
play
AVI files burned to an 80 min CDR... NOT a VCD, just the AVI file on a
cd....

Anyway, I am going to look for another site to buy from...

See the problem with the question was that the chip does not allow you to play the avi file. The chip allows you to run the program that plays the avi file. By any chance have you tried www.modchip.ca

yes

That is the site I am talking about.. anyway, I guess the phrasing of my question was a bit off.... but that still does not make me feel any better about a retailer asking me why I want ot buy or use their product in a particular manner.....

modchip.ca deals with magic chips. That could be why they gave you a crap response, as you said you were looking at getting a messiah 2.

Buy a mod such as a Messiah 2 and download and burn PS2 Reality player to a disc and you be playing avi/divx no problem.
