Since HK silvers are pressed..

You don't need a modchip in it then right? I can't test my dvd9 backup of xenosaga because all of my friends have xbox and 1 has a ps2 but is chipped also. Since my ps2 is broken, I can't play the original or the backup.

Can someone help me with my "Help Please" topic?

You need a mod to play hk silvers. Even though they are pressed, they can not copy the boot code that is pressed into the Sony discs. A mod is need to replicate this code.

By having access to or purchasing the OEM kit from Sony.

eh.
Apologies if these links are inaccurate and/or violate any rules...

Regarding the HK silvers, this might be of interest (re a commercial press).

I've read about "swap magic" disks coming apart so this is interesting (re a "Chinese copy").

Very interesting (The Chinese Copying) to read! However, why would you want to spend £100,000 on a Commercial press when a DVD-RW and M2 will cost you about £235 (Taking the writer at 200 and the chip at 35 which is average from where I live), or bother removing Polymers from discs and literally welding the two back together again? I would just get a DVD-RW and a chip. Forget HK Pressed discs (unless you need a backup of a DVD9 game. (Besides I hope you have the originals for your HK Silvers, considering otherwise it is illegal ) However, dealing with this Chinese Copying, why would you do this? Surely all these Crazy Taxi discs are more expensive than just buying the OEM from Sony??? What do you think?

Hehe, I wasn't suggesting that individuals attempt either.

If the links are accurate they indicate that commercial ventures, such as those producing HK silvers and maybe "swap magic", could create bootable disks (that don't therefore need a mod chip for backups).

EDIT: I'm not condoning/advocating participation in any of these activities, I just thought the information seemed to be relevant to the thread.

the swap magic/ar/regionx is the closest u get to a swap disk ,they supply the boot codes, but then u need chip to open the tray without the ps2 asking for the codes again

The swap magic 2 discs are actually dvdregion x discs, which have the code PRESSED over the disc. Very clever idea indeed!

Anyone who owns a swap magic disc can see the difference between the press on the RIM of the disc, and the very strange rings around the outer disc. ....PLUS YOU CAN JUST SCRATCH THE SWAP MAGIC COVER OFF THE TOP lol!

Put it in you're pc and it also records it as being a dvdregionx!

Nah - what have I missed? How can it have code pressed on top of the disk?

To make a pressed disk, you have to take a compound and press it. Then the top goes on (very thin) and then the bottom (much thicker) - bonded together. What did they do? Rip that apart, re-press and put it back together again? Nah.

The MIGHT have got hold of the old DVD Region X dye and added to that though I wouldn't know how - they need a special Sony kit to engineer the wobble in the groove for region check.

Nah. Tell me where I'm wrong (as I have been before).

Well i'm no expert compared to you thats for sure!!!

All i know is what i've seen, basically the disc (Underneath) appears to have two different silver dyes. The one around the inner rim (Ie, the wobble etc) looks very much like any other normal disc.

However, the rest of the disc is a different silver dye (and contains around 10+ different rings. (the best way to describe this is if you have seen a cdExtra cd (Basically a music cd which has data following it) it looks as if it has over ten various different sessions.

I've certainly never come across anything like them before.
The top of the disc is pressed using some cheap ...i'm guessing heat technique. This was scratched away thanks to some stupid mates who don't look after discs! and underneath it looked like a dvdregionx disc (although i don't wanna take much more off incase the dye falls apart when in the ps2.

When inserted into a pcdvdrom drive it reads as a dvdregionx disc and the files appear to be exactly the same (Although i need to confirm this)

As i've said before i'm sending you down a couple charlie for testing, Check you're emails a month back for the info.

Jay

Okay, we got sum conflicting sh1t here.

A pressed disc is a burned disc, the only difference being it's burned then has transparent layer added, whereas a burned disc is lasered through the transparent layer.

As far as I could research a HK silver is a 1 to 1 copy with boot sectors in tact. The only difference is that the hk silver hasn't got wobble on it.

Am i talking ****e?

I been explained this by very well known guy on this forum.

Regards
