Can Two Go Into One?
Hi All.
I hope you can help me. Although not strictly a newbie I have been getting by using the simple programs to back up my movies without problems. Now I have one. My wife bought an ex rental Pretty Woman. It is a double sided DVD-5. This is an extremely stupid idea and I'm looking to try and back the movie onto a single DVD R. Any ideas what program to try or a guide on how to merge movies. Obviously I could use DVDXCopy but I am desperate to avoid two disks. (Call me lazy )Whatever happens I must get rid of the double sided disk. It's bad enough not trying to scratch one side let alone two !!! Thanks |

I am assuming one side is widescreen and the other is full right? If so, why do you need both?

Well you could rip each side and convert them to dvd mpeg2. Then use a mpeg jointing program to make one large mpeg. A lot of compression will have to be done to get it onto one dvd though. Look at the guides here

How i would do it is to use DVD Decrypter to make a mpeg of the whole side . then use it again to make a 2nd mpeg of the other side. Then drop both these in to Ulead workshop . Make a menu and stick in some new chapters and create 1 really big VIDEO_TS (vobs). Then use dvd2one to make it all fit on 1 dvd as i find this is the fastest software at compressing than using ReMPEG2.exe.
but you are probmaking about 12 gig go down to 4 gig so the quality will be a bit dodgy |

Thanks for the replies so far.
Bighap - The movie has been split into two, similar to a VCD or a DVDXCopy back up I suppose. I've never seen anything like it before. Both sides are effectively half of the movie plus extras. I think each disk when scanned with DVD Decrypter is under 4 Gb each, so I don't think the compression would have to be extreme. The trouble is if I use DVD Decrypter to rip the movie files then both disks have vob 1,2,3 etc rather than the second disk has 6,7,8 ..., so the files would copy over themselves if I tried it that way. I hope I've made it a little clearer. |

rip the second side first, and renumber them. not hard. rip to different directory.

two on one
right first of all rip the film using smartripper and demux them into seperate files ie fil/audio do this for both of them then using tmpgenc prog u can piece them together it has a merge/cut option in the program then reauthor the film using spruce up dvd or dvd it

Thanks again guys
Podunkville your method doesn't seem to work because each set of vobs has its own seperate Ifo file. I don't know how to reauthor or edit the Ifo file to incorporate all the vobs. The total size of the movie files is only 6.5 Gb so once I can get a program like DVD Shrink to recognize all the vobs at once I'm in business. Anyone else have any ideas? No offence Nalla but I don't think I'm wise enough to try it your way. Demux sounds to me like something you have when your constipated !!!

There is a tutorial for this:
http://ifoedit.wh.fr0zen.com/joinclip.html#joindbl I tried doing it before but didn't work out - I think I done a few steps wrong cos in a rush, so give it a go and see how you get on.

Thanks gh0sth@cker.
The guide was for that very movie but I had one more vob to rip than the guide. Maybe it's a PAL thing. I found after using vobedit that I needed to strip the movie down from about 6.9 Gb. Unfortunately I had too much junk on my HD so I couldn't fit the new vobs in. Then tried to use DVD2one and Dvd Shrink. DVDshrink doesn't recognise my new Ifo file and DVD2one self destructs after about 28%. Looks like we'll have to persist with flipping the disk over. Thanks again |
