safedisc VS Securom

Is it me or is safedisc getting its arse whipped by securom. All the new games are being protected by securom and i have problems backing these up, safedisc i have no problems.
Its a shame to see macrovision going down the toilet after all the hard work they have done.

Of course. Software companies do know that it is hard to create a 1:1 copy of the latest Securom. Several publishers already switched from Safedisc to Securom, and as long as Macrovision does not do anything new to their protection system, even more companies will switch.

It seems that physical characteristics of the disk is the way to go for copy protections - maybe Macrovision will adapt their protection in future versions - maybe later in a version 3. But who knows. Macrovision will have to do something so I'd say something similar or revolutionary will arrive.

I have noticed that starforce 3 is starting to be used (Restaurant Empire and Horse race manger) which i have not been able to back up. It looks like they may take over from the usual suspects if they lower there ridiculous price for the protection.

I just can't wait to the moment when they override all standards for the CD-rom..even now the Securom fails every now and then..with the original discs... however, i've noticed a funny thing: when the <insert game name here> comes out it's protected with the latest "ultra-safe-non-hackable-copy-proof" protection but after a while and some huge patches the protection is suddenly ...gone?

UT2003? NWN?....maybe...hmmm..maybe they got tired of all the ppl complaining about their ORIGINALS not working?? " ohhh excuse me and my ol' cd-rom for not matching your "seek times"
can I have my money back....please?

The big problem is that the companies basically have to take an acceptable failure rate as part of this setup.

"1 in 1000 legitimate users will not be able to play this game."

Anyone remember the SecuROM blunder with Neverwinter Nights? It was locking out anyone with a CD burner in their machine, or anyone with CloneCD installed - even when they ran original discs. Now that's ****ing rude.

Like software companies really give a ****?

All they're interested in is protecting their money. There's no such thing as customer satisfaction or care.
